The characters setting, the baground, and the plot, all were well written, and I also like the visuals, it helps to understand each characters well. The ending was unexpected for me...and it kept me on edge throughout the read. Overall it was a good read!! Review: A Thoughtfully Constructed Mystery - Picked this up after seeing it around quite a bit, and it turned out to be a really engaging read. What stood out to me was how immersive the experience felt. The estate maps, floor plans, and character sketches aren’t just for show—they actually make you pause and think. I found myself going back and checking details, trying to piece things together along the way. The story keeps you involved without making it complicated. You’re constantly forming and revising your guesses, which made it quite enjoyable as a whodunnit. The ending is more subtle than dramatic. It might not feel like a big reveal at first, but it fits the tone of the story well. Overall, a well-constructed mystery that works because of how steadily it builds and holds your attention. Worth picking up if you enjoy solving along with the book.

Atmospheric mystery with beautiful sprayed edges
A Murder in Dehradun is a well-written and atmospheric mystery that pulls you into its setting from the very first chapter. The calm backdrop of Dehradun contrasts beautifully with the tension of the investigation, creating a reading experience that feels both soothing and suspenseful at the same time. The author’s writing style is smooth, descriptive, and easy to follow, which makes the story flow effortlessly. The clues are placed thoughtfully, and the mystery unfolds at a steady pace that keeps you curious without feeling rushed. The characters feel realistic, and their involvement in the plot adds depth to the story. I have read two other books by this author, and once again the storytelling did not disappoint. If you enjoy mysteries that focus on atmosphere, investigation, and strong writing rather than just shock value, this book is a great pick. Also, this edition deserves a special mention the sprayed edges make it look absolutely stunning on the shelf and add to the overall reading experience.

Strong characters
A Murder in Dehradun is a murder mystery wrapped in family drama, set against the backdrop of the Dinshaw estate. With 13 suspects and a sinister secret, the premise was intriguing. However, the execution left me with mixed feelings. What Worked: Strong character development—Shehnaz, in particular, was a standout with her keen observations and investigative skills. The mystery was layered, with various suspects keeping the suspense alive. What Didn’t Work: The writing felt overly descriptive, making the story drag in places. I almost DNF-ed the book—not because of the plot but due to the slow pacing. I expected more shocking twists to make this a roller-coaster mystery.

Captivating storyline
This is a captivating mystery set in the scenic hills of Dehradun. The story revolves around the wealthy Dinshaw family, whose life takes a dark turn when they receive a massive fortune of 700 crore rupees. This sudden windfall brings out old secrets and leads to a shocking murder. In order to get his will updated, Patriarch Jahangir Dinshaw calls his lawyer, and his daughter. However, the situation quickly escalates into chaos with a murder in the family. The book features 13 suspects, each with their own motives and secrets and no sooner than enough the story becomes a tense game of finding out the culprit. Slightly slow to start, but with an immaculate choice of words, we get the introduction of each character (obviously necessary), and the setting of the story in a snowstorm-ridden Dehradun, making it even more chilling. This book gives us a brilliantly crafted murder mystery in less than 200 pages. The caricatures for each character in the book are also a good addition. The author keeps the suspense high, skillfully weaving clues throughout the plot. The riveting descriptions and setting adds to the tension, making it a gripping read from start to finish. A classic whodunnit inspired by Agatha Christie mysteries and reminiscent of Knives Out, this book is a great thriller, a captivating mystery with well-developed characters and an intriguing plot. It's a page-turner because of the engaging story.

A murder mystery by an Indian author done right!
Amidst the lush hills of Dehradun, lies the the sprawling estate of the Dinshaws. Known for their wealth and rich a history sprawling across generations, the Dinshaws are privy to their own old secrets, envy, and festering greed. When an unexpected inheritance of 700 crore rupees is revealed, the family’s long-buried tensions rise to the surface as the Patriarch Jahangir Dinshaw calls for his lawyer to alter his will. But a violent snowstorm traps the household and well you guessed it right, we have a MURDER in our hands. A murder mystery by an Indian author done right! A Murder in Dehradun perfectly captures the classic feel of a Christie-style locked-room mystery, combined with the intricate plotting and mechanics reminiscent of a Yokomizo thriller. The writing is smooth and effortless, with no clunky prose to disrupt the pacing. Every page pulls you deeper into the mystery, making it easy to stay engaged throughout with a steady, confident rhythm. One of the highlights of the book is the amateur detective, an incredibly sharp and observant reporter. Despite her close ties to the family, she remains objective, using her detachment to expertly navigate the web of lies and greed surrounding the murder. Her methodical and unemotional approach of the investigation adds an edge to the story and I’m genuinely excited to see where the character goes from here. She has all the makings of a strong series lead, and I hope the author turns this into a recurring detective series. Overall, this is a brilliantly crafted murder mystery with engaging storytelling, vivid characters with strong back stories and an effortless reading experience.

Must read for mystery lovers
A Murder in Dehradun is the kind of book that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. As the story keeps going, the characters keep developing and that makes you want to know more. The biggest charm of any mystery novel is how it keeps you guessing and this one does just that. I found myself constantly wondering what happened and just when I thought I had it figured out... the story would twist. It reminded me a lot of Agatha Christie’s work, though we can’t compare it directly to her genius, the atmosphere and suspense are very similar. What really stands out in this book is how well the characters are thought and written. Each one has a unique charm and questionable personality, making them both a suspect and seemingly innocent at the same time. This complexity sets the perfect tone for the mystery. The book gives that high of a classic whodunnit, making it a must read for fans of the genre.
