A terrific edition of a truly important book
This amazing edition of the Odyssey includes several appropriately epic and nicely chosen illustrations that help the story along. It also includes highly useful and relevant commentary at the end. This is, after all, one of the first adventure tales ever written (maybe the first) and its reconstruction centuries after is, itself, a hugely significant story for lovers of the written word. The modest but valuable commentary at the end of this book is both easily consumed and highly valuable to the reader in creating the context for Homer's tale. It helps place this work within the context of the time it was written. Not only is the Odyssey itself worth reading (and rereading) but I definitely can recommend this particular edition as well worthy of ownership.

A Beautiful Edition of A Classic
The Odyssey of Homer: The Grand Illustrated Edition is a wonderful improvement of a timeless classic. As an English major, I've read the Odyssey several times, and the addition of illustrations, historical context, and glossary provides a rich understanding of the time, places, and people in the story and the impact the story had on its time. The illustrations throughout were vibrant and beautiful (although the spacing of text around them was sometimes off), I enjoyed seeing the journey unfold in the artwork.

Fast forward to the good parts
Rendered in clear, contemporary prose, this version of “The Odyssey” makes Homer's classic easy to read and follow. Yet what makes the original so cumbersome remains in this edition, namely the mind-numbing minutiae and the endless digressions and redundancies.Do we really need to know in detail the quality of the bowls the characters wash their hands in before dining? Or what they ate for dinner? Or which gods did what to whom? And how many times must we be reminded that the suitors for Penelope's hand are eating her out of house and home?Homer also has a tendency to overdramatize. No one is ever just sad or disappointed; they are weeping—constantly weeping. And if I have to hear sunrise referred to as “the child of morning, rosy-fingered dawn” one more time, it will be too soon.None of this is the fault of the editors. They’ve prepared a faithful rendition of the original text, which is an outgrowth of the oral tradition from which it evolved, but for the modern reader it’s a lot to hack through.Nevertheless, behind all that unnecessary window dressing are glittering nuggets of narrative storytelling. The blinding of the Cyclops, the evading of the Sirens, the outwitting of Circe, the escape from Scylla and Charybidis, and the great climax—as thrilling and gratifying as any John Wick movie—the vengeance of Odysseus against the suitors, which has been the inspiration for every action thriller ever made.At the end of the day, this grand, illustrated edition is as good a way as any to access to this towering classic of world literature. Just feel free to skim over the parts that drag. Just because the translators felt honor-bound to hew to the original text doesn’t mean you have to suffer through it. Fast forward to the good parts and enjoy.

Nice Read!
This is a nice classic with very cool artwork that brings the story to life. The author did a good job with capturing the essence of the story and presenting it in a modern way that captures the attention of the reader. So if you're a fan of this classic, you'll enjoy it even more.

This edition brings the classic journey of Odysseus to life
As a history teacher, this is a hard read. I like how the wording was easy to understand. I could see this as a middle school/high school bridge read. What sets this version apart is its completeness—offering extensive historical notes and a glossary that enhance understanding of Greek culture, customs, and mythology. This edition is easier to understand (pictures do help students) while preserving the beauty of Homer’s original tale.

Great size / comfortable format.
I like the large size of this version (about 8 x 11) as well as the interspersed black and white artwork. It's comfortable to hold on my lap with two hands without it feeling like it only want's to close up they way some smaller books can. I just wish they had done the Iliad in the same format.

The Odyssey
I like your service, however, I was simply surprised by the intense number of accurate chapters in the saga of the Odyssey. You may want other products related to the new film Christopher Nolan is working upon. I can read this poem, however, I don’t believe most subscribers would have the capacity of patience or even language knowledge to read through this epic and very dense poem from antiquity!!! surprisingly
