Q: Can you use this to strain boiling hot jam or jelly?

No. You should not use the nylon version to strain boiling hot jam or jelly. Since nylon is a synthetic material, you should not use it to strain foods or liquids that are hotter than you can withstand to the touch. I would recommend our organic cotton version of the pouch for your purposes. This version will be great for making jams or jellies and will also be great for straining yogurt. Just from what I saw the holes are bigger in the produce bags you selected. I'm thrilled with these bags, I bought 2 and they work like a charm. I hang them to strain the whey out from my cabinet door handles.
