The most amazing photography, a beautiful book, a great source book for anyone interested in historical costume, the history of textiles and fashion. The V&A are world class at this type publication and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

A most wonderful book, with great detail of the clothes of the times.

Beautiful photography

This book, as it states in the title shows DETAIL. The photographs are simply beautiful and show close ups of embroidery, lace, ruffles, buttons, pockets all of delicious details that make fashion of this period so gorgeous. The line drawing show what the entire outfit would have been like and that's sufficient. I personally prefer the men's clothes, the embroidery on jackets and waistcoats is exquisite. I'll be drooling over this for a long time and must buy the other books in the series.

Could have had more pictures in showing a progression throgh the years.

This is a great book with some lovely picture's in it, but it is totally spoilt by not showing the full garment. Surely it must be less effort to print a picture of the garment rather than draw a sketch? Some lovely close up details, but I want to see the whole thing.
