Best Sharpener I’ve Ever Owned
This is hands down the best and my favorite sharpener I’ve ever owned. It’s one of those tools that just works every single time without any guesswork. The guided system makes it super easy to keep consistent angles, which is huge whether you’re sharpening knives in the field or at home. It takes the skill barrier down and still gives you really sharp, clean edges. What I really like is how complete the setup is—you’ve got multiple grits, a strop, and everything you need all in one compact kit. It’s perfect for hunting trips, camping, or just keeping in your gear bag. Build quality is excellent. It feels durable and made to last, not something that’s going to wear out after a few uses. The case is a nice touch too—it keeps everything organized and easy to carry. Overall, if you want something reliable, portable, and effective, this is it. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Incredible system
Convenience, portability, versatility, effectiveness, it is an incredible all in one sharpening system. I am fairly new to sharpening, but this makes it easy. Contained in this ingenious 7x1.5” device is a coarse plate, fine plate, strop, ceramic honing rod, a smaller ceramic rod for serrations, fish hook groove, and an integrated wrench for disassembling your arrowheads. They thought of everything. If you lift up one of the plates there is a small storage compartment where you can keep a ferro rod, oil, green compound, small cloth, whatever you want. I tried it out on a cheap dullish Balisong that I’ve had forever. It’s never been this sharp. Just remember, if you’re still not getting the edge you want, just keep at it. After 50 strokes on each side of the blade with the fine plate, honing rod and strop, the blade was quite sharp, but still not razor sharp. So another 50 strokes on each side with the rod and the strop and it was shaving with ease. I’ve discovered that real sharpening is almost therapeutic, and incredibly satisfying to get that keen edge on a blade. I have a whole pile of knives ready to go, and hairless patches on my arms and legs. It would be nice if there was something more to hold onto while sharpening, perhaps a handle that folded over and enclosed it like a balisong or telescoped out of it, but I would not want to sacrifice its compact size. Still a 5 star product that works like a charm. UPDATE 11/20/24: So this has been my primary sharpening system for 10 months now and I still love it. I have not yet spent hundred of dollars on a set of water stones or a premium bench top sharpener, and haven’t felt the need to. I recently purchased the Sharpal Transforod to see how it compared. The Sharpal has the advantage of using better quality abrasives and being able to adjust the angle guides with the twist of a knob, but it has two fatal flaws IMO. One is the cylinder interfering with my ability to reach the entire cutting edge of most of my blades. The other is the inability to sharpen both sides of the blade without turning the sharpener around, switching hands, or switching to the under side of the sharpener where I cannot see what I’m doing. For these reasons the Worksharp is still my preferred system. Sharpening on it is faster, easier and more accurate. I am hoping, however, that they release an upgraded version (let’s call it the Ultimate Guided Field Sharpener) in the near future with adjustable or removable angle guides. 20 degrees is a great all around sharpening angle, plenty sharp to shave hair, but I find myself wanting to go shallower or steeper for some knives. Also, not all knives come from the factory sharpened at 20 degrees, and sharpening them on this device necessitates reprofiling them. Worksharp’s Benchstone has removable angle guides that can be switched out for 15,17 and 25 degrees and it would be great if the Guided Field Sharpener had the same capability. Oh yeah, and some kind of handle would be nice too.

Quality product that works very well. Compact and practical for traveling. Budget friendly
Super satisfied with this product. Very well made, compact and very practical. I used several different basic blade sharpening tools for my SOG Trident which I've had for about 7-8 years and could not be more happy. Decent price for a tool that really did the job well!

I've purchased several of these
I have purchased several of these now. I also own the Precision and the Precision Pro where I can set the angles (you can set the angles mechanically with the both the Precisions. the Pro has an additional digital angle measure as well. What makes the field sharpener great is that they are quick and you aren't breaking the bank. The Field sharpener is a great size for your drawer. The Precision systems give you more capability, which I wont go into detail, but you do have to set it up. So for a quick sharpen, the Field Sharpener is perfect. It does have a 20deg angle built in. This is hard to explain (because it becomes a sharpen by feel), but you can then use the 20deg to then change the angle from there. Such as with kitchen knives you want a shallower grind per side, such as 15. It puts a decent "working" edge on your knives. I recently did about 10 kitchen knives (maybe more) for my stepdaughter when I visited, and I left the sharpener for them. Worksharp has tutorial videos that can show you exactly how to get a paper sharp edge. So this is great to learn. It's intuitive. It has everything you need in the one sharpener and it's affordable. It takes out the fear of ruining your knife edges (flat stones etc.). It's affordable and as I mentioned, its compact design makes grabbing it to do a quick sharpen easy. It gives you a starting angle, it gives you the grit progressions and the strop. So you just need to focus on figuring out how to get a burr, then all your knives will forever be sharp.

Work sharp, look sharp, be sharp!
I have been getting into blade maintenance over the last year and have seen many video reviews on WorkSharp's products. When I happened across this, I knew it was a no-brainer. Going into the wilderness each summer for weeks at a time meant I would dull some blades, and we know that is a sin. This is very easy to use and understand how to use. It even comes with some Easter Eggs that it doesn't quite tell you about initially. It has two different grits to use, one very abrasive for reprofiling an edge, and one moderate grit for maintaining an edge. Along with that, it has three different ways to use the ceramic: a coarse ceramic, a fish hook sharpener (I would love to know who is able to keep a hook long enough to need sharpened!) and a smooth ceramic. Finally, it has a leather strop that already has compound applied. It is essentially an all-in-one made easy. It is very effective and using this, you can consistently have sharp knives whenever you need, wherever you need. Pros: Different grits, multiple ceramic types, leather strop, compact in size, guide ramps for 20 degree angles to maintain an accurate edge every time, swappable diamond grit plates (Found this out when I dropped it! Also found the included instructions in the storage compartment) Cons: Only have 20 degree guides for beginners, grits are very coarse and medium coarse only, leather strop is a bit skinny Overall, I would recommend this to anyone starting out in the sharpening game, or a seasoned veteran. Mine has convinced others to get it simply by using it once because of how good and easy it is to use. 4/5 stars

Gives a Razor edge on the fly
In the field this works very well in a pinch. Puts a 20° working edge on the bevel, the ceramic puts a differential 22° bevel on the blade giving it a razor edge that can then be honed on the leather strop. The strop has green compound already applied, I would recommend purchasing more for later usage. The plates are magnetic and can be removed to scrub down with a stiff tooth brush, then dried. The additional plates it came with are of good quality and will be used once the plates it came with wear down, which for how much I sharpen knives will be once ever 8 or so years; but I do sharpen once or twice a week depending on how much bushcrafting work I do. The steels I use on knives tend to be 1095 carbon, and the high carbon stainless stuff from China that kirshaw uses, and I used a magnacut small blade and all of these seem to work well with this sharpener. The case it came in is nice and ergonomic, just fits the sharpener and two stones snuggly; the case core seems to made of EVA foam that is sturdy as long as you don't run over it with a vehicle you should be fine. I would recommend using honing oils on the diamond sharpener to keep it from getting clogged. A clogged sharpener can be frustrating to use. The set angles are nice to have as a refference point. Do not sharpen all the way until the knife tip drags off, this will blunt your tip quickly, sharpen just to the tip and let off, do not scrap the tip off the sharpener. I use this resting on a rock or a log or on a table at home, the thumb notch to hold the sharpener does not give you enough stability to sharpen the knife proper. I think it a great sharpener, an all in one type deal that gives you a razor edge on the fly. I think its a great value for the money and would recommend to anyone.

a sharpener that really works
I saw the Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener advertised elsewhere and thought it looked pretty interesting. Reviews were good, and I thought it might be useful for small sharpening chores. I was quite skeptical, though, as I have purchased portable sharpeners from other companies that were junk and largely just turned smooth knife edges into coarse serrated edges. The Guided Field Sharpener greatly exceeded my expectations. The sharpener arrives well-packaged. You need to pay attention to the back of the package as it tells you where to find the included instructions, which you will otherwise think are missing. The body of the sharpener is cleverly designed with removable rough and fine diamond coated metal plates that are held securely in place with magnets. Lift up and remove one of those plates and you will find the product instructions tightly rolled up in a little secret compartment. They are a little difficult to read since the instruction sheet keeps trying to roll back up when you unroll it. I found it easier to download the product instructions from the Work Sharp web site and read them online. They are well-written, though, and show you how to make good use of your new sharpener. The Work Sharp web site also has an online video that shows you how to use the sharpener. The sharpener is designed to be very versatile and can sharp knives, small axes, scissors and even fish hooks. You do the basic sharpening with the fine diamond plate, hone with the fine ceramic bar, and then strop on the leather strip. Most sharpening can be done with the fine diamond plate and fine ceramic bar, but a coarse diamond plate and coarse ceramic bar are provided to sharpen badly dulled edges. The built-in guides help you hold your knife at the proper angle for sharpening. The leather strop is pretty short, and I found it a little difficult to use effectively. But the diamond and ceramic sharpeners work well and are easy to use. There is a small ceramic bar to sharpen serrated edges. I put a razor-sharp edge on a dull pocket knife with only a few strokes on the fine diamond plate followed by the fine ceramic bar and then the strop. It was a very impressive improvement in knife sharpness. The Guided Field Sharpener is obviously designed for easy portable usage while camping, hunting, etc. It is small enough that it would fit easily into a backpack, tool box, or fishing tackle box. It works great, and its $30 cost is a small price to pay for its ease of usage, portability, and very effective sharpening performance.

IT WORKS WELL
I have always had a problem trying to sharpen my knives due to Arthritic hands so when I first heard about Work Sharp I went onto their website to check out a video on knife sharpening and after watching I bought this Work Sharp Guided Field Knife Sharpener pocket model. And wow I have good sharp knifes fit for their job. My main knife is KA-BAR BK16, and now it works, I also have Victorinex Hunter folder and that is now sharp. So if you intend buying first check the website WORK SHARP and take your time to check the relevant videos before you buy. GOOD Quality ALL ROUND. Finally I noticed about reversing the diamond plates when not in use to protect them.
