Gainsborough Room 9.5

I've been at my current residence for 11 years now. I bought it with a Gainsborough Impulse 9.5 kW shower. It served me so faithfully in all that time, & must have served the people who installed it. It was a loyal, reliable shower, ready to give a functionally good jet of water for sufficient cleaning & revitalising. Sadly, it gave up the ghost last week, so I was on the hunt for a shower that could be installed without having to re-tile, could fit the old attachments, pipes & wires with minimal fuss. The Stanza was offered up on a search as a shower specifically designed to replace pre-installed showers. It ticked all the boxes in that regard, so my plumber was happy to install it for me. But ... WOW! What a shower! Looks good, easy to clean, simple "Start / Stop" button for the water flow, and a precise temperature dial for your desired showering pleasure (it's plenty hot enough for Me, & I didn't dare to max the temp. so for all you scold fanatics, there's plenty more heat for You!) The water flow is far stronger with the Stanza, without having to add any additional pumps/gadgets The shower head is generously sized to give a wide spray for a sumptuous soaking, or twiddle the nozzle for a jet-streamed full throttle concentrated blast, or an amalgamation of the two, depending on your taste. It heats up the water very rapidly (no need to stand there naked for ages for the right temp to get there) When it's there, it stays there! No unwanted temp fluctuations, only the temp You desire! My Mum has a far fancier shower at Her's, & it's gas But I tell you, right here, right now, My Stanza gives just as good a showering! I kid You not! It's by far the best £132 I've ever spent, & I swear it'll last Me just as long as the Impulse did (maybe longer?) Designed to be plumber-friendly, good-looking, & give an exceptionally enjoyable shower, whether cold, or blisteringly hot, & every desirable temp inbetween, that will stay consistent throughout your shower time Well done Gainsborough, an affordable shower with stylish good looks, & a luxurious showering to be had! If I could give You 6/5 Stars, I would, that's a fact!!

This item was purchased to replace an older version which after a number of years had ceased to function. I contacted the company and asked if ty had a model which was a 'natural succesor' in terms of fittings. I was keen to avoid too many holes in our tiled bathroom! The helpful assistant advised this this model would fit the bill and I therefore placed my order. The installation began well when the electrician noted that the electrical wiring and the water inlet were correctly located for a simple installation, BUT we now reach the reason why I gave four rather than five stars! The fixing points did not match and we now have two neat holes in the tile above our new shower! I think I might have been overly optimistic to think we might get a perfect match but I was given to understand that this was possible! However, given that the shower performs well, we will learn to live it the holes in the wall in time ☺

Replacement shower unit received very promptly from this supplier, the unit only took one hour to fit, this was very straightforward. I did have to drill new mounting holes as the existing holes for my old Gainsborough 2000X did not match, this was no big deal as the unit is the perfect replacement for this model. I particularly like the single temp control and the one touch on/off feature. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

meh. Why don't they put the screw holes in the same place as the old shower unit it is meant to be the exact replacement for? Its o-kaaay. A bit tame in terms of the power of the shower too. Very good if elderly as very very simple to use - point and shoot really

Took me a while to get someone to fit it for me, but once installed (which I am told is really easy) it has been working well. If I have one complaint it’s the on/off button, you really have to press hard to switch the shower on.

Lasted just past warranty and failed. Piece of crap buy something else

I would never buy any other make for a shower weather it was a thermostatic one or an electric shower like the one I have bought to replace my Gainsborough 2000 9.5kw which was 22 years old and still working it had just lost its colour due to the sun coming through the windows over time, if it hadn't been for decorating the bathroom making the shower look dingy I would not be changing it. My first Gainsborough shower was about 30 years ago it was a gravity feed thermostatic controller which was great until I tried to take it apart to buy before buying a replacement parts I stripped the nut buy trying to open it anti clockwise instead of clockwise, after phoning Gainsborough who were then working out of an old building on Norwich Airport the asked me to bring the part in so they could take a look to see which parts I needed, on arriving at Gainsborough's office I was take to the workshop were I was given a complete new unit at zero cost. You get what you pay for their products and service is second to none, I always try to encourage my friends and family to buy a Gainsborough if I can giving them the above example of my experience with Gainsborough. These showers are great. They are easy to install. I've had this SDL for many many years but the only problem with them is that if you live in a very hard water area it cannot cope with furring of the water chamber. The result is that after 2 years it runs extra hot with little flow or it runs hot then cold. The remedy is to purchase another 'engine' ( the main working part) and then it's fine thereafter. If this is same in your area I suggest you get a softener or an alternative shower that copes better with scaling. Other than, as said, it's great for the price!
