Slow but entertaining.
A great cast in a type of movie you seldom see them in. With subtle humor it tells of three museum guards, each obsessed with a work of art, who find out their favorite pieces are being moved permanently to Amsterdam. During their dull lives guarding these works of arts they spend endless hours at work dreaming of the pictures (although William H. Macy has a weird nude obsession with a sculpture). Now that they are panicking over losing their art pieces they decide to steal them. These senior citizens without a clue of what they are doing set out on the heist. I found it very humorous and worth a look.

3 Security Guards with odd fixations on artwork band together to save the works and find friendship along the way.
Funny fluff piece. Three security guards discover that the art exhibit is moving to the Netherlands. In an effort to save the works they've each become attached to, they decide to steal the works. The movie moves quickly. The characters are lovingly played by actors we know and love. There are some nice touches of realism added to give breadth and depth to the piece. You will have to suspend your disbelief a little. Playful, you will laugh at the odd idosycracis of each piece and Walken is a wonder. Love that Morgan Freeman is superfluous. Nice ending.

Casual comedy, I loved it.
Mr. Walken usually plays dramatic roles, this one is toned down for him. Same with freeman, it's just low and slow, but funny. And I really enjoyed it.

very funny, must watch
Security guards in love with a piece of art, each his own. Gay guard is very talented artist who has been trying to capture that "glow" that the masterpiece exudes. Exmilitary guard is obsessed with naked warrior, and is constantly taking his clothes off to imitate him. One realizes that the artwork he's obsessed with reminds him he's married to the love of his life.

Morgan Freeman and William H. Macy
Why weren't the other two principal characters/actors billed for this movie? No offense to Joseph McKenna and Wynn Everett, but they didn't even have 2 minutes of screen time.Walken, Freeman and Macy are the three principal protagonists and they do a splendid job of action adventure and comedy.

Good case can be deceiving
While the case was in great shape, the movie only plays to chapter17 out of 35 chapters, that was after cleaning. No idea how it ends , very disappointing when you can’t depend on companies to view the disc before selling

Totally charming
Christopher Walken, Marcia Gay Harden, Morgan Freeman and William H. Macy--too perfect. I love paintings, so that may be a nice start to really appreciate this film. The humor is very subtle here--chess pieces as people substitutes with quick animation in mapping the heist, Marcia Gay Harden's nose peeking out from the barely opened door as she listens to her husband (Walken) telling her he has plans for them to travel, her sweet cradling of his head when she tells him she's seen him relaxed, Freeman with his kitties and hidden talent of wonderful drawings...The acting is wonderful, and the director does a fine job of balancing with such an abundance of talented team playing.

Slight but enjoyable crime caper
One thing that does annoy me with film distribution these days is that whilst we here in the UK can be inundated with complete cack by big studios, little movies that are far more enjoyable are often unable to raise the funds to get a distribution deal here. This means that many people miss out on little gems. Not great films per se, but films that certainly deserve a better and bigger audience than they have. The Maiden Heist definitely falls into that category. It is undeniably a small movie, even given its cast, and many people may feel they have been short changed by not having some crime epic on their hands. Personally I think its wrong to judge a film on what it never intended to be and judge it only on what it intends to be. In this case we have three main actors who are clearly having a ball, playing nice guys in a small, light but undeniably fun caper film. Its not perfect, but I'd take this movie over many of the big name comedies that appear on our shores with barely a laugh in them. This film has good actors, a great sense of whimsical charm and left me with a smile on my face. What more could you ask for?

don't be fooled by repackaging
Gentle heist comedy that if viewed with no preconceptions can be enjoyed with repeat viewings. An ideal Sunday afternoon film. Originally called the Maiden Heist this small production (Morgan Freeman co-produced to get funds) disappeared without trace after its initial release. It only got a region 1 release on DVD. Another small film that fell through the cracks that sadly a lot of good films do because they don't fit well in the multiplex hierarchy. But hey, repackage it call it The Heist , have the three characters looking like they have guns in the film and repackage it as an action film and it sells more copies. Sadly, a lot of people think they're going to see a film that it isn't.As a Christopher Walken fan , it is good to see another film where he is a main character-doesn't happen that often, sadly. Morgan Freeman, Bill Macy and Marcia Gay Harden are always worth watching. There are moments in the film that are predictable but they are done well so you don't mind. Just don't pay any attention to the cover and you'll be fine!

Schade.

A charming caper
This is a buddy movie with a difference - it's actually quite good! I found the characters really charming and funny and I really loved the story line. This is about 3 older guys who are guards in an art gallery. Each has really fallen in love with a painting or a sculpture. After all, they're the ones who spend the most time with them. When they discover they're being moved to Denmark, they put together a daring plan to prevent this outrage and well, hilarity ensues....This is really not the type of film we're used to seeing from this stellar cast so prepare to be pleasantly suprised. Wouldn't want to see this again and again but I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a giggle.
