OXO Good Grips 4-Sided Box Grater for Cheese & Vegetables with Container

This grater makes quick work of grating cheese, carrots ginger & potatoes (for potato pancakes). I use a mandoline for julienne and slicing, but have been using a flat grater for carrots and cheese. When I went to a friend's home for dinner recently, I helped her prep using this grater. I came home and ordered one for myself the next day. The grater is sharp and the handhold is solid. There is a rubber/silicone rim around the bottom that keeps the grater steady and in place while using. I have not yet found a need or reason to use the lidded container, but it stows itself neatly up in the bottom of the grater and does not protrude (as pictured) for storage. One quirk I did notice however, is that although the storage container fits two ways on the bottom of the grater (either as a catch basin, or up inside for storage), the lid of the container only fits the container. I initially thought the lid would also fit on the bottom of the grater, but it does not. It would have been great to be able to snap the lid onto the bottom of the grater so contents would be contained in the grater itself. It would be easy then, to just pick up the grater by the handle and transport the grated contents to saute pan or other pot. Despite my disappointment in not being able to do so, I am still very happy with this and would recommend completely.

This was our first Oxo item purchased. They've made a fan for life! My hubby is attending culinary school, but has been cooking for many years prior to formal training. He wanted a good grater that wouldn't take knuckles along with the food being grated. The Oxo Good Grips is positively perfect. The sturdy design will last for many years. More importantly, it was also designed with the safety of the cook in mind. The broad handle easily fit my husband's broad "man hands" (you guys know what I mean - women's hands can fit in much tighter handles most of the time), giving him a secure grip on the grater. This is super important. Some graters have a very narrow handle area, leaving it either annoyingly tight or comfy only for women. There is an additional anti-slip black ring around the bottom, making it very unlikely to slip on the table/counter surface. This particular grater even offers an extra convenience - a small plastic storage box with snap on lid for storing the food you have grated. While not great for big quantities, of course, it would be great for parmesan cheese or freshly grated spices. The storage box is even marked with measurements so you can easily see when you've reached that 1/2 cup (or whatever) of grated ingredients for your recipe. It pops on to the bottom of the grater if you choose to use it, so the food goes directly into the container. No fuss, no mess. I would not change a thing on this grater, that is how nice it is. Well, okay - I'd add an OPTION, not a change. It would be nice to see some other colors added some time down the road. (Most of our kitchen is done in John Deere, so green would be nice! Hint hint!) This was a very well-thought-out design and we are glad we bought it. We also are very glad we purchased the item from Amazon. It was packaged in the same box as a cast iron dutch oven (ordered at the same time), which wasn't the best idea. The first grater came dented from the weight of the cast iron sliding in to it. We followed Amazon's spectacular return information, had the bad one back in the return mail to them that afternoon and received the replacement grater the following DAY! Yup - one day. Outstanding service by Amazon. Overall, nothing negative to say! We highly recommend this item, as well as purchasing it here on Amazon's site.

There is nothing about this grater that we don't love! I need a wider/softer handle on something like this and OXO came to the rescue again. The handle is easy to grip and has enough curve in the design to make it comfortable to hold. The rim around the bottom has the same material, making it stable and helping it stay put when in use. All grating sides are sharp enough to make grating a breeze. One of the selling points was the small box that was included; perfect for grating the fresh parmesan I keep in the fridge. The top keeps it fresh and has a snug fit that is still easy to remove with a little flip. All in all, this has been a success in our kitchen and we will be ordering another as a gift for an older relative. We highly recommend it!

Got this for my teenage son. OXO is one of my favorite kitchen brands - he really loves the container feature on the bottom. He cooks only for himself so it's a good size and good quality.

I love this grater. The grip is large enough so my hand doesn't cramp while gripping it. The measuring catch at the bottom is handy - makes it much easier to grate over that than a plate and you can see and actively measure as you grate. Sturdy - not heavy but not flimsy either. It is relatively easy to clean. You do have to take off the rubber seal at the bottom where the grater meets the measuring cup so water doesn't get in there, sit, and rust the bottom of the grater. It needs to be removed to dry properly after washing. Other than that, it's a solid grater.

I have a hoarding problem. I literally have been using my parents grater I got when I moved off to college. As a housewarming gift, my parents gave me a box grater and a 32 oz can of Dinty Moore Stew. They were generous like that. Somehow 35 yrs later, I decided it was time to make a change and since I cannot seem to let go of anything, my wife purposely hid the grater somewhere in my kitchen. I needs my box grater. It does so many great things, like taking off the end of your fingers when you try to use the one side with the single blade grate. You know in the back of your mind, you got this but in reality the empty cans of Lone Star on the counter is what's telling you can do this. And there goes a 1/8th inch of index finger. Any-how, that is why I bought a mandoline, but that story is for another time. I have always like OXO. I have these big fat hands with sausage fingers and OXO actually provides a solid bit of kit here by giving me something to grip. Also, their quality always is on point. This one has a handy catch bucket with measuring cup markings. Although, I think OXO is just showing off with this contraption since I have yet to use the said catch bucket attachment. However, I have used the unit as I always have over the years. A must have for making sofrito for my paella.

OXO tools always have unique features that make sense. The handy container catches all of the grated material, up to one cup. In addition to that, it elevates the grater so that your hand or knuckles don't hit the countertop when you get to the bottom of the grating surface. Very thoughtful design. These most commonly used grating surfaces are razor sharp on this multi-surface grating tool. Note there is a non slip countertop edge if this is used without the container. Another winner from OXO!!!

Really pleased with this OXO box grater. It feels sturdy and well made, with a comfortable grip that makes it much easier and safer to use. The different grating sides are very useful, and I particularly like the container underneath as it catches the grated food and keeps everything much tidier. I’ve used it for cheese and lemon zest and it works really well. It’s a definite improvement on my old grater and I’m very happy with my purchase.

Sharp, relatively compact, and easy to use. Sometimes simple designs are the best. I no longer use multiple microplanes, just replaced with the classic simple box grater. The little plastic storage container makes it easy to store any excess you might have. It can also be used to measure your desired quantity.
