What's with the $49.99 price tag? Does Atlus think so highly of itself that it's charging the old "Square Enix tax?" Think I'll wait.

I don't think the VAs and the Bonus cd in a slip cover doesn't warrants a $50.00 price tag. if you take a look at Bravery default for example; you'll see that for $55 you'll receive dual audio and the rest of the limited edition material. What we have here is a rehashed devil survivor 2 with added content and possibly no dual audio. Best to wait it out if you have the patience ( Atlus does not put out sales that quickly) It's been a couple of months now and guess what? persona Q is still $50 and so is the digital copy being it doesn't come with the tarrot cards.

What's the difference between devil survivor 2, devil survivor 2 overclocked and this one?

It was Devil Survivor: Overclocked, which was the first game. Overclocked was an update of the first Devil Survivor game, with an 8th day and a bunch more endings. This game follows the same format. It updates with voice actors the first Devil Survivor 2 game, plus there is a separate story that takes place after one of the endings from the original Devil Survivor 2 game. There are 3 endings in the new story. When you start new game plus, you can play either storyline. If you have never played any Devil Survivor games, start with Devil Survivor: Overclocked, then buy this one, then buy Shin Megami Tensai IV. All of these games are excellent.

Can I play this game on the normal 3DS, not the new one

Yes this is a regular 3DS game that can be played on any version of the system (3DS, 2DS, New 3DS)

Never played a game like this or Shin Megami Tensei games, but will this be worth a try?

It depends on the type of RPGs you're into. This is a SRPG that takes place on a grid so it may not be the best game to start with if you're not into that particular genre. If you want to try a game in the series I'd suggest Shin Megami Tensei 4 which is a third-person turn-based JRPG (same genre as Final Fantasy games)
