It works well!
My old unit quit working. Bought this to cool a large den where my dogs were that had been converted from a carport and had no duct work for HVAC. It kept the room reasonable in the Arkansas heat & my dogs weren't panting!

Best AC we have in the house
Bought this on a whim a little while back well before a record breaking summer heat up in the Pacific Northwest. It holds its own, but needs some help once it starts getting into the mid 90s (black out curtains, keeping doors closed, having overhead fans running). With high humidity and the whopping 110+ F we hit one day (which even at 50% humidity, feels like 151 F according to the heat index), this little guy couldn't keep up. During the worst part of the summer, it was able to drop our bedroom temp around 20-25 degrees colder than outside, which is decent, except that at 110 F outside, 85 F inside with 75% humidity felt like 95 F in the room.I really like that the fan stays on even when the AC kicks off when the desired room temp is reached. Bought refurbished, the remote LCD screen seems damaged - like it was left in direct sunlight and damaged, it's barely visible at only a particular angle, but besides that, I'm overall happy with the product and would recommend it.

Curse you, Mister Brady, and your caveat emptor lectures
I rent a 1BR apartment in SoCal's San Gabriel Valley. There's a 20 year old LG wall unit in my bedroom that cools that room decently, but not powerful enough to cool the entire apartment. From July until October, my living room/office gets crazy hot, and retains heat into the night, even if I open the windows and start a fan or two. After sunset, it's sometimes 10 to 15 degrees hotter than it is outside, until about 2 AM! The room has a large horizontal slider window, so personal security prevents me from getting a window unit. I'm a renter, so I can't install a wall unit. After not being able to use my office during these months over the past four years, I finally (and with eco-damage-guilt) purchased an LG LP1217GSR Portable Air Conditioner (Renewed). I'd read the reviews and noticed water leak issues so I was aware. I also read the entire owner's manual. On pages 22 - 24, under the section HEATING DRAINAGE (Optional), "If you use the Heat mode, you must install the drain hose. If the Cool mode is used, the drain hose is not needed." The unit didn't arrive with a drain hose, but, it shouldn't matter, because it'll only be on Cool mode. Right? On page 24, under the section EMPTYING THE WATER COLLECTION TANK: "This product has a self-evaporative system, The condensing water will be recycled to cool the condenser. This not only improves cooling efficiency, but also saves energy for you." This bit of quasi eco-responsibility is followed by instructions for using the upper and lower drain ports for DRY MODE ONLY.I ran the unit a few times in May and it did a good job of cooling the room. But wow, this was supposed to be a "quiet" unit, but emits a very loud, never-ending, vibration din. To "blimp" it with noise-reducing material isn't an option, because it would impede the air intake grills and the infrared port for the remote. The remote it came with didn't work, but when i contacted the vendor, they quickly sent a replacement.Last week, we had a triple-digit heat wave, and the unit was set on "cool" mode for a few days. I gave it a break for about six hours each morning. It was on Cool mode Tuesday and ran over night. The next morning, as I sat down at my desk, I discovered that the 5x8 wool rug that the LG unit was at the edge of was completely soaked. I was really shocked, since I read and re-read the manual, and I'd run it without incident. As a result of the over night seepage, there's a lot of wreckage. The laminate flooring has bubbled at some of the plank seams, which apparently can't be "repaired" and must be replaced (or risk mold growth) (bye security deposit). The water soaked through two portfolios four feet from the unit and stained/ruined the collections of large photos, art work, posters, and other printed matter. The water also soaked through the stack of current paperwork, files, my appointment book, and a project notebook I had on the floor under my desk. The patterned 5x8 wool rug was made for the Queen Mary in 1939, and it's been part of my LA habitat since 1990. Although I tried to roll it up and handle it with care, the water it retained caused it to shred all over the place, and, whelp, it's now destroyed.I contacted the vendor about the leak, and they quickly responded, said it could be a crack it sustained during shipping, and that I could still return it. I don't know what to do, since it didn't leak at all when I tested it in May, and I just threw out the packaging. Oh, LG, I thought you were sincere when you said "Your air conditioner is designed for year-round operation with only minimal cleaning and maintenance." My review has a lot of detail because a potential buyer should be aware of the amount of loss and the amount of time to clean-up and deal that is potentially required by this unit. 😢 🤯 🤬 😤 🥵 😱

It could be better. Lack of QC.
It seems to be ok. The remote is about as good as a 1970s clicker, as the display is almost useless. Its dim and only works if you have a short and perfect line of sight to the front of the AC. It gets confused if you use the buttons on the AC and then switch to the remote. It had a dent in the package and thats on FedEx but it just happened to be on the corner where the caster is. The caster is so cheap that it bent, and with little effort I bent it back with my hand. If you push this thing around in shag carpet it will bend the wheels...and you need to update your home decor. I think it will handle 500sq/ft @ 90 deg F. Its a little loud but its mostly plastic panels vibrating so with inventiveness you can silence most of the noise...but should you need to on a new product? . If you get it on sale or a renewed model and don't expect bells and whistles then I think it's not a bad budget portable AC.

Great AC unit!
Our central AC went out and I decided to purchase this portable unit while we could save for a new unit for the house. This little guy runs like a champ with no need for a drain hose or emptying a reservoir. It has saved us so far through half of a Central Texas summer. We installed it in the master bedroom and keep the doors open during the day. It cannot freeze out the entire house, but it will keep it comfortable enough with a few fans to help. Great value!

Life saver!!!
This helped me big time during a current heat wave. Cools my bedroom immediately. I'm actually looking forward to summer. It's sort of loud, but not as loud as those old swamp coolers. I like that i can move it to another room if needed. Easy to take down and put away.

So far so good!
So far its great! Came quickly and looks brand new! Couldn't quite figure out the window installation. Doesn't seem like there are enough screws and no nuts to secure the screws but I made do! The unit itself is powerful and definitely cools the room.

It's cool but not cool with all those scratches!
Very noisy on high fan setting and when AC is on. Scratches, scratches, scratches. Wow! So many it looks like that it was used and abused (see photos). They show a LG remote. I got a remote with a remote sticker on it. Peeled the sticker off and it is a Hisense remote. What I expected and paid for was a refurbished, lightly used, LG portable AC. What I got was a highly used, scratched LG portable AC with a Hisense remote. Does it work? Yes. That's why there's two stars. Just be forewarned.
