Hal Leonard Djembe Method. Includes Media Online

Excellent video tutorial. Great book!

Have just begun the material and so far very impressed. Its all layed out for well, organized, and easy to understand. Have been studying basic hand drumming in a seniors class for 9 months with elementary patterns and this material is the perfect bridge to advancing to Djembe study. Again, easy to see why the Hal Leonard material are leaders in beginners methods.

Good clinical book with some djembe patterns. Nothing deeper, but does it's job. The couple of lines on djembe tuning/building are, in effect, worthless. In my opinion that should be extended because that is the main problem people have with their djembes. Staying in tune and up to playing pitch is imperative or you'll get frustrated quickly. Otherwise, great.

Happy with the instructions and video available with this book. You would have a difficult time playing the rhythms with only the book. Paul Jennings is the video instructor, and my only complaint is this: some rythms have three versions - for lack of descriptions they are Easy, Medium, and More complicated. All of the versions can be played at the same time by three different drummers. If the video was a bit longer, it would have been the ideal learning companion to jam along with.

This book offers online video of each rhythm, so it's easy to learn. Information on music theory and timing is great. The rhythms can be challenging for a beginner, like me, but, with practice, I'm sure I'll be able to play them!
