Hello, why the red version of this camera have a shipping weight of 3 pounds and the same camera in black have a shipping weight of 4 pounds?, thanks.

Shipping weights are estimated by sellers and include packing materials. If the seller that posts the weight just guesses or uses more packaging than the others then there could be discrepancies. To address your concern, the red and black versions weigh the same. If the seller you're buying from is charging shipping by weight, contact them and ask them to make an adjustment ot buy from a seller with a flat rate shipping fee.

Would you recommend this camera for taking pictures on an African safari? Do you think it would adequately capture mountain gorillas in low-light settings? We're deciding between this camera and the SX50, so any input would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same choice. I went Nikon and am very happy. Although I have never taken photos of gorillas in low light I have taken photos of my children who can occasionally behave as such in low light. This camera is superb. After owning 10 years worth of nothing but Cannons I finally strayed from the reservation and bought this Nikon after three months worth of contemplation. I am very happy. The 3D effect for very still shot photos might be some of the sharpest non professional photos I have ever seen. I would buy this again, or take on an African safari knowing the zoom will be a huge asset. Best of luck on whatever you decide.

Are you getting good pictures with the camera?

I have gotten some great pictures from it. I notice that the close ups are sometimes blurry so I have to back off until the screen clears. I would say normally good pictures.
