15000mw USB Laser Engraver Automatic Carver DIY Print Carving Machine for Stainless Steel and Metal

My first time using a lase machineLove it .

I received my new little laser engraver last week, and I find it to be a very good little machine. It has the power to engrave wood quite nicely; I haven't experimented with other materials as yet. At 40% power, it engraves about .030" (0.76MM) deep into red oak, which is a very hard wood. I am using this to engrave on my wooden Native American style flutes and parts, engraving the Key Signature and my branding information into each flute, plus some graphics work as well. I am still learning the software, but it is quite promising. The seller states he will be offering a plug-in fixture for engraving cylindrical objects, so I am looking forward to that. One area which could stand some improvement is the ability to cut objects out of thin wood - the software really doesn't do this, or else the manual needs rewritten to explain how this is done. However, for the money, this is a very nice little machine- It is quite well built, the Y axis has not one but two stepper motors, which yields more precision. It comes fully assembled, so you don't have to contend with that. It is ready to go right out of the box. If you're looking to buy a laser to experiment with, this is a great little tool - and I used to operate large industrial lasers for metalworking, so I have a little background and experience in this area.

I would have given this a higher rating, however several things happened over the course of a month's time. First, one of the stepper motor drivers shorted out and nearly caught fire due to the heat sink not being completely straight. Since the heatsink was on crooked, it touched something on the board and shorted the stepper driver board out. So that was an added expense on me because I couldn't get should of anybody from the manufacturer in china. This happened day 1. Once I got the stepper driver board fixed. It worked great for about 3 weeks. Then, the machine started acting weird and would not travel on its "Y" axis. I played with it, and inspected the board itself. The board itself had shorted out and there was a burn mark under the OTHER stepper driver on the main circuit board. No justifiable cause I can see for it to happen. So, after about a week of searching for a replacement board (which an identical one does not exist or is hard to find), I opted for a mana SE board to replace the fried board that was one the machine. In the mean time, while waiting for the replacement to arrive, I have opted to upgrade the extruded aluminium rails and make them longer, as well as upgrading the rubber belts for both axis's. The machine now works great with the new board and rails. I have taken 2 stars off, due to each thing that happened to the machine within a month's timeframe.When the machine is up and running, it engraves very nicely. It can engrave deep or lightly. It does not have a TTL controller, with it, which would have been nice. But I will probably upgrade the laser to a 15W anyway. All in all, for my needs, it is an ok machine how it is when it originally came. After my upgrades (and future upgrades) it will be a superb machine. Just watch and inspect everything all the time and consider upgrading if needed.

Junk. Laser burnt up after few engravings on low power!
