BLOOMSBURY ECONOMETRICS BY EXAMPLE

Well, I'm not sure if it's worth writing a review since most people don't have a choice in buying this (you buy what the professor requires), but this really is a great textbook. I used it in college econometrics about 4 years ago, and found that I really could use it again in my job as a consultant. Since I couldn't find my old copy, I bought another one and it was worth every penny!

This is a wonderful book easy to understand. This book is like a teacher sitting before you and giving you instructions as you require.

only through chapter 1, now realizing that I am unable to download the solutions manual for some reason. the Palgrave website has proceeded to frustrate me beyond belief. What is the point of getting a "by example" book if you are unable to download the solutions manual to check your work at the end? why is palgrave.com so hard to work with? I am unable to send them a message directly through their website and the solutions manual link takes me to a page that never loads. The book does not delve into enough computational detail to overcome this rather large inconvenience and following this experience I will look to avoid palgrave when ever possible.

Damn I hate my professor for thinking he could teach us out of this bull. I hardly get anything out of this text. Been bummin' all over the net to fill in the missing holes.

This is a wonderful book on econometrics to anyone who likes to understand economtrics with an example. Author has diligently presented this throughout his book.

I would recommend reading Basic Econometrics by the same author before getting this. But this is good for revision and exams. Also it is good as a handbook at your disposal.

This book takes on some pretty tough and complicated statistical concepts and makes them truly easy to understand and practical to actually do yourself. It is the filter which makes the truly theoretical books on the matter palatable and understandable. I passed my exams on the topic and it would not have been possible without this book as a backup to the "difficult" ones. Only downside is the long list of errata (check the website!), the book could for sure have done with better editing before going to press.

Unlike other econometrics textbooks, Econometrics by Example doesn't drag on. By going through examples, the book gets to the why and what without getting lost. This is useful for people trying to use econometrics. But for university students who are required to prove and understand the methodologies, you may need another textbook. Although, I would argue that proofs are easy to come by on the internet. But Econometrics by Example plus Mastering Metrics is perhaps the best combination to gain a practical understanding of what econometrics is all about fairly quickly. This book does cover more topics compared to other undergraduate-level textbooks (like survival analysis), and the topics are better organised. All this in less than 500 pages. However... it is a little bit deceptive. Don't get me wrong. The brevity and clarity are much enjoyed. However, some tables that the text refers to are not in the book. In the front matter, the book states that some tables are instead available on the companion website - yet they are not. They aren't "critical" to the understanding of the text... But the book is not "complete".

Didático. Excelente para os estudantes que estão com dificuldades em econometria e precisam de uma boa introdução no tema. O livro sacrifica um pouco aspectos teóricos e foca mais na aplicação prática. Também aborda (em nível introdutório) alguns conceitos avançados.
