Q: How much H2O should be added to the 10g bottle to produce a solution suitable for mouth sores, warts and wound cauterization?

You really probably don't want to use all ten gms of the silver nitrate. Adding ten gs of silver nitrate to 1000 mls (1 liter) of distilled water would give you enough silver nitrate solution to supply a small army. Suggest you weigh out 1 g silver nitrate and add 100 mls of distilled water for a 1% silver nitrate solution. Recommend you check the Merck Index for the correct pharmaceutical concentration for your intended application. Along with that, it would be highly recommended to obtain the analytic or pharmacy grade versus the reagent grade you've purchased from Amazon if planning to use internally. Check www.saltlakemetals.com for pharmacy grate silver nitrate. I use a 1% solution of silver nitrate for verifying if it's salt water or fresh water in the bildges of boats I inspect.......tns/retired Chem Engineer.

Q: Is this the solution that Marine Surveyors use as a field test for chlorides?

I don't know for a fact that marine surveyors use AgN03 for a test for Cl since, the two marine surveyor I've used didn't have a clue on what it can be used for. Having said that, a 10% solution of silver nitrate will turn milky while when in contact with salt water (NaCl) forming a participate of silver chloride (AgCl). Very simple test for any chloride present or determining if its fresh water or salt water in the bilge. Be extremely carefully when making up the solution and using it....whatever surface it becomes in contact with will be stained with "black spots" and almost impossible to remove. Wear rubber gloves and protect any white surfaces. Retired chemical engineer.

The item I received from Amazon was 10 gms of solid (crystal form) reagent grade silver nitrate. I used it to weight out enough to make my own 1% solution dissolved in distilled water.
