Awesome!
One of the best drum books I have used. I emailed him and he sent me videos of each beat. Amazing book! I highly recommend it

You will get your money's worth with this book!
This is a book for woodshedders. If practiced as it is set up, which can be tedious but very helpful, it could take a year for advanced percussionists to master. Great book. Leaves no stone unturned.

Fun and applicable
I am enjoying this book. It has some great 'meat and potatoes' hihat patterns. If anyone has played-even for quite a while- it is possible that you have overlooked something basic. The hats section is great for filling in the blanks. The funk patterns section is flat-out fun. You can't help but feel the attitude. The transcriptions section allows you a peek inside the brains of some of the greats: Steve Gadd, David Garibaldi, Harvey Mason, etc... There is also a solo section, which I haven't tackled yet, but looks to be challenging and entertaining. There are 2 cds included. Additionally, any creativity on your part in the way of stickings and voicing expands the possibilities exponentially. I believe that you will find that this is money well spent. Grab your sticks and enjoy!

Great Workbook!
I love the exercises in this book! I feel that it would benefit drummers of all skill levels, newer drummers should not be put off by the word advanced in the title. Is this book hard, yes but not impossible. If you have a good percussion instructor and you are willing to put in the practice hours than this book will help you immensely.

Outstanding variations of funk patterns and rhythms
I'm an intermediate drummer who's spent the past 3 years working through Future Sounds by Tommy Igoe and Future Sounds by Garibaldi. I realize like I gravitate toward toward funk patterns and was recommended this book by several people on Drummer's Forum.I'm only into the first few pages and already have found dozens of cool grooves with patterns and sticking I'd have never thought to combine that sound great!I only took off 1 star because I don't love the notation of "stems up" for everything. I prefer stems up to hand sticking and stems down for feet (Garibaldi's book writes music this way and has the cleanest "look").As for the content...I highly recommend it.It's a bit expensive at $24.95 and I couldn't find any cheap used copies but I'll get years of practice from it, so that makes it a bargain.

An awesome foundation for all drummers trying to learn to play ...
Classic Book. An awesome foundation for all drummers trying to learn to play funk. Based on the age of the book it covers classic funk beats rather than contemporary styles. With that said, the contemporary styles are all rooted in the grooves and patterns in this book.

Lots of great beats
I’m a beginner, and use this book under the watchful eye of my teacher, if you like your funk it’s a must, the solos are very tricky, and probably grade 5 or 6 level, although i’m Pretty good at solo 6 but i’ve had to really practice at it (i’ve Just passed grade 1)There’s lots of little 2/4 bar funk patterns at the beginning of the book to get you into it.The production values on the cd aren’t great though, it’s a bit bassy and false sounding, I think this book was originally produced in the 80’s though so no biggie
