Think of this like an internal sump. With that said, you can drill extra holes so more water can flow in easily. I think the most useful advice I can give you if plan for this aio box is what type of skimmer will fit in here. I used a magtool n100plus on 2nd chamber. I actually had to break the divider in the last two chambers since the water level is pretty odd for my chosen skimmer. Also I had to put the skimmer diagonally a bit for it to fit in. Very tight space. There is a suggestion you can Fiji skimmer but I am skeptical about the review and went with my own choice. Make sure you get some good silicon to attach it to your tank before you put water in there. Other than that I love the height of this box which fit perfectly on my 55 gallon Landen tank (not a regular 55g thin one you find at Petco). First chamber I have live rock and chaeto, second chamber nano skimmer, and the last chamber return pump and filter pad in that order.

I could not build one of these for the price. The size is just right. It is large enough for all the filter media you would need and I can easily fit my hand all the way down to the bottom. The media rack seams a little thin but I don't think that will be a problem. The return pump seams like just enough but it has a steel impeller shaft. I would have preferd ceramic. If you install this with the magnet in a 40b tank, the media basket will be hard to get out as it hits the rim. I installed mine with a bead of silicone between it and the glass and let it dry under its own weight. This gave me just enough clearance to solve this issue but now it's installed more permanently. It is shorter that my aqueon 40b so when I silicone this in, I had to leave a gap under it of about 1" to 1 1/2" which will be filled in/covered by substrate. Detritus trap??? We'll see? These minor issues is why I took off a star but over all, I'm happy and would purchase again!

Honestly love this filter , saves money on having to buy an all in one tank . Only thing I wish they done is built the sock holder in instead of a piece that hooks on the side to hold the sock . Other then that it’s worked great for my 75 gallon reef tank

Its is very possible to add after setup but a major hassle. Your tank must be bare bottom in order for it to fit.

A little bit complicated in installation. I was able to follow tank directions though.
