Great laser package at a reasonable price
After years of doing interior and exterior projects with bubble levels and mason lines, I finally wised up, researched, and bought one. Reasonably priced compared to rotating lasers. Was spending too much time the old fashioned way with plumb/level in a bathroom gut for a house built in 1900. Also used it to check grade slope on another house with drainage issues. So it has already paid for itself in time saved and accuracy performed, all the day after getting it in the mail. Look forward to other remodels, grading projects, tiling, fencing, etc. on my punch lists. For those beyond the once-in-while DIYer and up to small commercial work, I would recommend this DW088LR, and definitely over the cheaper DW088K. They are both red laser and pulse. But the biggest difference is the pendulum lock. When turned off, it locks in place so as to not bounce around. The DW088LR also comes with bracket, card, glasses, and is compatible with 12V Dewalt rechargeable battery cartridge (unfortunately only a few low-power tools use these, so your 18V or 24V cordless tool batteries won't interchange). The 4AA battery cartridge so far was sufficient for all day use, maybe because I turned it off for periods of cutting, figuring, etc.The hard carrying case is perfect, also holds the DW0892 Laser Detector with bracket I purchased separately for exterior work (there's still room for a charger if I choose to later buy the 12V battery). I also bought a non-Dewalt grade rod for a better price, just make sure it has both markings in 12inches/ft and tenths/ft so as not to limit yourself. I didn't want to pay the green laser price, and so far using red closer to dusk worked visually outside. I played with it in bright sunlight where neither green or red would be seen, and with the laser detector it worked as designed. In terms of laser projection, the angles above/to the side of point of origin are as good as you'll get without a rotating laser, but the unit rotates on the bracket anyway when needed. The pendulum, if shaken, quickly returns to plumb/level. The thickness of the red line is concise enough for close work and thick enough to see far away. I consider this a pro-grade tool with a DIYer price.

Almost laser perfection .
So far it's a great laser ... I was installing commercial LED lights and needed them to be in a straight line . The green is definitely visible and it's reaches far . The container comes in feels sturdy and comes with green glasses , a charger for the 12v battery , a ceiling clamp , a green target mark, and the laser itself has a magnet to attach to metal studs and what not.The only problem is it's hard to fine tune for a straight line, I wish there was a dial of some kind to adjust slightly to the left and right , I use my hand and hold the whole laser body to move it 1/16" to the left or right and either the whole thing moves or I move it 1/4" further than I wanted , so you play this game of back and forth getting the fine tuning of where you want the laser to point .It is a lot easier when the laser is on a metal stud then atleast you have a better grab on the actuall laser left or right . If it just sitting on the floor the whole body wants to move .Other than that it does exactly what it says .Bright green light , I love the functionality of the 5 point laser and vertical and horizontal lines and how you could use them separately or together .I'll have to update my in a few months once I have used it in other applications .

Great for indoor, good for short-range outdoor use.
I knew when I bought it that the green laser was supposed to be better for outdoor use but it was also $150 more. Granted it did come with a 12 volt lithium battery and charger where this one comes with an adapter for double A's. But I already had 12 volt batteries from my other DeWalt tools that I used on it. some of the reviews have said battery life with a double A's was about 3 hours. I don't know I only used it for about 5 minutes just to see how it work that night. On a 12 volt lithium battery I got about 10 hours have used and it showed a half battery left. I was pretty impressed at that part.I used it for an outdoor project, leveling ground for a 15 by 30 foot concrete pad. Outdoors in full sun 20 foot the laser starts getting hard to see, 30 foot if you look really close you can see it but that's to be expected. And like I said I knew that ahead of time. For indoor use it as great as a very bright clear line. It feels very well made and I liked it flashes if it's not sitting level that way you don't go too far before you realize your mistake.

Worth the money. More uses than you may think
Proved to be more valuable than I realized. Purchased to help hang cabinets. Absolutely revolutionary for that. Helped set toe decking for base cabinets. Split the green line in half - lower half on face of toe frame, upper half on wall.Upper cabs- both horizontal and vertical lines help establish levels, but also helped me to see when one cab sucked tight to wall was in fact distorted, making it easier to pinpoint where a few shavings needed to be taken off where cab meets wall.THEN- I started building a new shop. Oh yeah!-Framing vertical and horizontal squareness- Siding- yep, bright enough for that.-Sheetrock> found studs, had buddy move vertical line stud by stud as I drove screws - just smoked through that process!- Metal ceiling- same as above. As for quality, I've had no double line issues or short battery life. I've run this thing for 4-6 hours straight with plenty of battery life. Green color is very visible, even when used outdoors. If you're in business, this will pay for itself monetarily and contribute to the enjoyment of the job for the speed at which you can more accurately execute your work. Really a huge bang for your buck.Go green laser - no regrets!
