Great Instruction by a Great Musician - Buy It!
Very well written book, unlike many that are out there that throw you a bunch of repetitive fluff to take up space. Guthrie covers many useful concepts and techniques while explaining what they are, why they are useful, and when you might want to use them. Not to mention that if you do the things in these books (1&2), very cool things will start happening with your playing (Surprise!!!😀). Great teachers explain things well, and it is a gift to have such a great guitarist that is such a great teacher as well. Some that are of the lazy variety complain about things but don't do what they need to do to improve themselves. Sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and get back to basics to see what you missed if this easy-to-understand material doesn't work for you. Do a separate study on theory if necessary. This IS a technique book, but offers so much more in knowledge and wisdom from arguably the best guitarist on the planet today. Thank You, Guthrie!

Essential Reading for Serious Guitar Players
The only guitar book even in the same galaxy with this one is - yep - Volume 2! With this book, you'll get the musical benefits of learning NEW ways of approaching fundamental (and not-so-fundamental!) aspects of learning and playing this great instrument, from a world-class player who, thank goodness, is also (imo) a visionary-level teacher. This is *so* much more than a book of "...exercises designed to...." _Creative Guitar 1: Cutting Edge Technique_ is a book of short essays (wonderful, conceptual humor, and the *cream* of an intelligent, thoughtful mind) interspersed with musical examples rich enough to keep you going for as long as you want to go. Long after you're through Vol. 2, you'll be able to find pure gold, again, in volume 1. That's how deep this water runs. If you want to experience guitar playing through the mind of a master player, invest in these books. I doubt that this level of playing has ever before been laid bare (finally!) for us all to see and feast upon. Get yours; take the summer off if you can; enjoy.

Can't Say Enough Good About This Book!
I bought this book as well as "Creative Guitar 2', and Guthrie has become my new guitar "hero". He is a wealth of knowledge, and doesn't hold anything back. He really wants the reader to be a monster guitar player, and provides some really great exercises and licks to accomplish that. The text is written in such a way that it's like having Guthrie sitting across from you giving you a lesson. At least that's how I feel. There is a lot of great ground covered in each book, and I HIGHLY recommend that you get both books.

A masterclass in fundementals
In this book, Guthrie distills the basic building blocks of guitar fluency in way that's understandable and practical. I've owned this book for about 3 years and I've revisited it countless times to answer questions about theory, practice habits, note choice, just to name a few topics. I really cant recommend this book highly enough. It's fundamentals, taught by an absolute master, and delivered with just the right amount of British humor.

An excellent reference for a developing guitarist
I purchased this book to use it in conjunction with the guitar classes I teach, and found it to be a great reading resource as well for myself. The information is clear and cuts through some of the myth and mystery about guitar that one seems to "pick up" along the way, but never have it all completely explained. I look forward to reading the next volume as well, and possibly using information from it to teach my own students.

Great book for educator or student
I have been looking high and low for a book to use in my lessons. I was contemplating creating my own book, but hey why reinvent the wheel! Believe me I own all the method books, and I have had to suppliment my own materials not found in those books. The problem with most guitar books are they do not cover certain important guitar concepts with depth. This book will get challenge players in area's most player are weak! I guess the author also writes for Guitar Techniques, which is also a great mag. Excellent book !d

Wish I'd had this 10 years ago
In this book, Guthrie breaks down a lot of basic and intermediate techniques, theories, and ideas in a way that is easily understood, and learned. He takes what is complicated and frustrating in other instructional books/dvds and puts it in a way that a complete beginner or an ignorant self-taught player like me can easily learn from and understand. Can't wait to get home every day and start working through the next section of this book. I wish I'd had this when I started 12 years ago!

Good purchase
Solid read, explains areas of guitar I have struggles with as a bedroom type player for some time. Getting back in after being out for 15 years or so. Didn't want to pay for lessons, but wanted to learn more.

Molto consigliato!

One of the best.
If you are a beginner or even an advanced guitar player, there's no doubt you will find things to learn in the book. It's probably one of the best book available out there. It goes far beyond chords and simple how to format that must books use.
