Purchased in preparation for a move to Year 1 next year.The book is organised into the 6 main areas of learning in number and provides daily starter activities for each in a logical step by step weekly progression through each unit. Each starter is accompanied by a photo to show the resources you may wish to use.Granted some of the ideas are slightly basic or repetitive, as is the nature of all these sort of books, and you'll need to differentiate as they are aimed at your average middle ability Year 1 child but there are still plenty of fabulous ideas to make it worth the money. It will save hours of time in planning over the course of the year as the starters are practically all already planned for you for every type of number session you could possibly deliver, whether it be place value, subtraction, multiplication etc.

I struggle to manage to use manipulatives with the whole class - because of the time to organise and because we simply don't have that many resources, so I had high hopes that this book would give me some great ideas. I was disappointed - it's not that prescriptive but it's not that inspirational either. A lot of it seems to be using found materials to represent place value and at least 50% involves writing an answer on a whiteboard. I don't fancy the lesson when 15 pairs of children need 20 counters somehow already grouped in pairs - that's 300 chunky shaped counters, 150 elastic bands and 20 minutes of break time getting ready for a 10 minute session. I will try to use this book because it was very expensive!

Great ideas for an NQT, I can't wait to use these as interventions for my Year 1 children.

This book has a great variety of ideas that I was able to adapt and use for inputs and continuous provision activities.
