Q: I turn on the remote then the truck. It blinks once then turns off?

What blinks? Most cases it would be power related. So if its remote that blinks then check batteries/connection. Same with the car battery but could also be a short somewhere.

Q: does it use just one 7.4 V 1600 mah battery to run the truck or does it take both at the same time?

You can use one or two. They can piggy back together, the battery compartment will not close with two. No big deal, I have drowned mine a few times, with no effects. It still ran like a top !!

Q: What size are the shocks?

Look up the digital instruction manual on the Hosim website for the specific car. Get the part number and Google it.
