Does the receptor come with gps + glonass like other garmin devices?

No the inReach devices do not have GLONASS. They are similar to the older inReach units but in the familiar Garmin body, and the Explorer version has compass / barometer and preloaded Topo base maps.

Is the battery replaceable? Thinking of using it where charging will not be an option for over 30 days.

it is not replaceable. I am hoping my goal zero will be able to charge it. The The American Backpacker, on youtube, is the guy that steered me from not getting the old one, which does not have the topo map. Also, 10 min updates will drain the battery fast. Without it 3 days. He also charges it w/ a goal zero, but I do not know which one. I have the goal zero nomad. It takes all day to charge 1 walky talky that has 3 AA bateries. I guess have it on only to use i e map asthmas and check in via txt. I hope this helps.

Is it possible to load custom maps (jpeg image maps) in google earth kmz format like on other garmin gps devices?

No. The only apparent way to download maps is using the InReach site and the Inreach Sync application. Or at least that's what all the docs claim. I trying to work with their Support now to get that part working. The InReach line is now owned by and branded as Garmin, but it's fairly clear that it's still being developed by an insular group in the organization, since all of the general Garmin tools aren't compatible with it.

Under one of the plans it charges for location pings. Is that when someone checks on my location?

I don’t think so. It’s when the unit sends a record of your location to InReach. Sort of like live tracking. There’s a way to track yourself just on the unit, though, that does not use pings but is also not recorded centrally.
