Great Product, Great value for your money
This is the second water timer I have purchased from rain point. I purchased one 2 years ago and was happy with the performance. The only issue I had with it ( it’s minor) was the connection as they were plastic. I had to move the timer from front to back so had to be careful when connecting. With this new model RainPoint upgraded the connection to metal fittings. So no worry of cross threading. This was easy to setup in a few minutes, this timer has a lot of features, you can set up schedules, rain delay, tracking the amount of water used, and more I told my son about the RainPoint water timer as they travel a lot, they love it as much as I do. Being able to program when they are out of town, their lawn is looking great and their gardens looked great also. They now have 2 of the timers. I did have a problem with my first water timer and contacted their customer service, they were able to help me diagnose the problem. The timer had failed, but they had a replacement to me within a week. The big plus is they offer an extended warranty for 5 years. RainPoint will be my first choice everytime and my recommendation for anyone wanting a great quality water product.

Very Useful, Glad I Upgraded to WiFi!
This is the fourth RainPoint product I’ve bought and I haven’t been dissatisfied yet. I own the manual timers (single and dual) and have been happy with the way they work - easy to set up, easy to program, works well - but wanted to try a WiFi enabled timer so I could adjust timing and turn on/off without having to go outside, especially to turn it off if rain is anticipated. The cost was decent too for the hub and timer pairing. Overall this is a great product. It was easy to set up the hub with the WiFi and the timer with hub. It took less than 5 minutes from box to set up. The hub is a little large which was disappointing but it does have a built in outlet so you don’t actually lose an outlet. Connection to the hose bib was easy, it makes a tight fit with no leaks. I applied a little plumbers tape out of habit. Brass fitting is a good feature too, making it a more solid product. The RainPoint app took a few minutes to get used to, it wasn’t as intuitive as I would have liked but perhaps will get easier over time. I like that it has three different schedules you can set and go back and forth between them as needed throughout the season. You don’t have to go out and set it manually and then remember your settings for the next time. The manual on/off (with time setting) was useful for setting up the sprinkler. You can turn it on and off from time phone without having to go back to the hose bib while you’re trying to position your sprinkler which is very convenient. The on/off button in the app had about a second delay though which was unexpected and a tad annoying but still better than going to the hose bib multiple times. I haven’t seen the intelligent weather response yet so I can’t speak to that feature. But I was able to turn it off manually with sprinkling rain from the phone. I also can’t speak to how well the hub works with multiple timers, and hub placement between multiple timers, but I plan to get one or more timers since this product has been so good thus far!

Pricey, but functional and top quality
I purchased the RAINPOINT WiFi Water Timer specifically to help manage topping off the water in our pool, and its going to save me a lot of money. The days of putting a hose in the pool and then forgetting about it—only to waste hours of water—are hopefully behind me for good! The setup was quick and painless. Connecting the unit to our home Wi-Fi was fast and easy. The system comes with two components: a gateway unit that plugs into a standard house outlet and connects to your Wi-Fi, and a remote unit that attaches to the outdoor faucet and hose. The remote runs on four AA batteries, and while I haven’t had it long enough to confirm the year-long battery life claim, the app displays battery levels clearly so I can stay ahead of any issues. The iPhone app is simple, intuitive, and works great on my iPhone, and the app in the gateway controller will support multiple remote units. Setting up the timer is super convenient, and it gives me peace of mind knowing I can start and stop water flow with just a tap. Overall, I’m very pleased with this purchase. It was a bit on the pricey side, but seems to be a well-thought-out product that solves a real-world problem and does it with ease. Highly recommended!

Not very Smart
Good product, worked as expected, BUT if the WiFi fails, the valve unit will not reconnect when the WiFi resumes. You have to manually reconnect it to the WiFi at the valve. This makes it worthless if you're going to be away from home for an extended period.

When it worked, it was great! But it failed after less than 2 months of use. (It’s working again!)
Why did you pick this product vs others?: The functionality and features of the “smart” water timer, along with so many positive reviews, were the deciding factors that compelled me to purchase it—now, as of today, twice. Functionality: As I just noted: Earlier today, I just purchased the timer for the second time. Had to buy a second one because the first unit failed. More about that in a minute. When it was working, it functioned well with the app. Simple and easy to use, intuitive, could program in different watering schedules, etc. It did everything we needed it to do. That is, until it stopped working. Two days ago, I received a low-battery warning on the app that urged me to install fresh batteries. When I removed the battery “pack” this morning (the unit has a pack or cartridge that holds four AA alkaline batteries), a bunch of water poured out. After I dried out what I could, I installed four new batteries, but the unit would not power back on. I tried two other sets of new batteries and got the same result. I called Rain Point customer support and was basically told the unit had failed and they would send us a new one, free of charge (which is great). BUT I was also told it would not arrive for a few days at least. That did not work for us because we are going to be traveling in and out of town for the next couple of weeks and need a functioning timer (it controls the drip lines to three large beds of tomato plants and herbs, which could die if they are not watered for an extended period of time). So … I ordered a second one via Amazon, with delivery expected tomorrow. If the second unit functions properly for the rest of the growing season, I’ll update this review and let you know. I will also likely increase my rating to five stars because, when it was working, it was great and did exactly what we needed it to do. I would also note that Rain Point’s customer support team was easy to contact (you can speak to a human on the phone), attentive and understanding, and I give them props for sending me a new unit free of charge. From the many positive reviews, I don’t get the sense that these stop working all that often, so we’ll see how the replacement unit performs. However if the second one fails too … well, “fool me twice,” I guess. And I’ll let y’all know. UPDATE TO MY ORIGINAL REVIEW: So the first Rain Point Smart Water Timer I ordered (and that I reviewed above after it “failed”) is working again. As I noted above, after the first one “failed,” I bought a second one, which arrived yesterday afternoon. As I was preparing to activate the second one through the app, a little voice in my head said, “Hey, try the first one again, just to see if it may work now after sitting a couple days.” SOOO … I did. This time, however, before I re-inserted the battery pack back and tried to get it working, I “deleted” the first one from the app, effectively wiping it off the app and Rain Point account. Then I put the battery pack back in and … it powered on and, after a few minutes, connected to the hub and the app. It’s working again! I’m not sure why it would not power on after replacing the dead batteries the first, second and third times, but I do know that I followed all the pairing and activation steps provided by Rain Point, and it would not power on. AND I even called their customer support team (which is VERY GOOD, I would note) and could not get it working. BUT … after deleting it digitally from the app and re-inserting fresh batteries, it powered right up and reconnected to the app. Appears to be working great again! So the lesson here appears to be: If your Rain Point Smart Water Timer won’t power back on after replacing dead batteries, try deleting the timer from the app and reconnecting as if it were a brand new timer. That worked for me. Because of that, I would now give the product Four Stars instead of two. I’m withholding one star because nowhere do the product’s troubleshooting recommendations suggest deleting the timer and reconnecting it if it won’t power on after replacing dead batteries. My instincts (and years of experience with other electronic devices that operate via internet connectivity) told me to try the old “delete and reconnect” solution.
