Is the top cup (the one without all the holes) closed at the bottom? Or does egg run out through a hole at the bottom into the water?

The top cup is connected to the lower, so the egg run out through a hole at the bottom into the water.

Do I need a large pot filled with water to use this product?

While our Egg Poacher is optimized for use in a pot large enough for the water to reach the Egg Poacher fill line, our Product Development team noticed that the Poacher still works even if just the bottom half of the Poacher is covered in water.
