Good game

I never had the chance to play Astro Rescue Bot (I never hopped on the PS VR 1 hype train, though I kinda wish I had, in retrospect), but when I bought my PS5, Astro's Playroom was enough to justify every dollar spent on it. Everyone that I've talked to with a PS5 agrees that Astro's little demo blew their expectations away, and this full game does the same. If you've seen any commentary about the game, comparisons to Super Mario Galaxy, or even the Super Mario games in general, are on-point. The themed levels have fun gimmicks and hints hidden all over the place, and the "Rescue Bot" aspect of saving all the bots that go missing makes this a fun and not-too-challenging collect-a-thon. Some things are actually a little tricky to find, so make sure you have that PS app on-hand so you can use the Hints feature. What makes this game stand out from being a Mario clone is the humor and love that radiates from this, as well as the music. Team Asobi clearly cares a lot about the legacy of PlayStation, showcasing games and characters that may no longer be console-exclusive, but who were essential in making our memories good ones back when we were growing up. Nostalgia isn't the only thing working for it. Astro Bot has the most natural, flowing platforming I've ever seen. Running around and jumping feels as natural as it did in Mario Galaxy, and though Astro doesn't have Mario's move-set, he's got enough endearing gadgets/buddies to match with Mario's most iconic power ups. The challenge levels will actually test you, and the frustration never gets too much. Astro Bot feels like it was PS1/PS2 platformer we never had. It's happy, it's funny, and it's a game that enthusiastically invites everyone to join in the fun. Honestly, if this game had come in an old N64 box, it wouldn't feel out-of-place at all.
