The shaft is not removable. The gray section rotates two notches to the right or two notches to the left. The middle notch is for non-ratcheting use. I thought that I would mention that it did not come with any bits just in case you did not read that in the description. HTH

Q: does the 808050s have a bit compartment? where is the "easy push button" if it does?

Not sure why Amazon asked me if I could answer your question. I have the Lord model not the s. Mine has a bit compartment in the handle.The easy push is on the handle.
