Knowledge Is Beautiful: Impossible Ideas, Invisible Patterns, Hidden Connections--Visualized Flexibound – October 21, 2014

Visualizing large amounts of information can be challenging. This book sparked many ideas for projects I am working on. Glad I bought it.

Many high priority and academic topics are covered in this book. The author provides an overview of a topic with charts, figures, numbers, and graphs. Done also with style and color. Various topics that are priority issues (carbon budgets, superpower competition, empires, religion) are here, as well as many academic or social topics. The book makes old subjects new and interesting. Some people will use this while browsing the internet or watching TV, like the way one uses the World Almanac to get further detail, while others may find this to be just for a diversion. Most people, though, will learn some new facts and information that they either thought they knew or hadn't known at all.

This book is beautiful and the concept is terrific. I would say that a lot of the pages are pretty confusing and do not actually convey the information in an easy to understand way, but maybe I am just stupid.

This was a gift book for someone who had been wanting it. He was thrilled to get it. He loves analytical data & facts. After he opened it, he beganlooking at it right away.

Found some interesting and useful visual design patterns that I will start using in my reports. And a load of interesting facts!

A rich treasure trove of information aboit the world and people. Fabulous as a read, fun for just random browsing or really reading cover to cover.

Book does what it says ... Amazing amount of work behind these infographics, there is something in every visual that makes you think and the beauty doesn't detract from the importance (or fun!). A work of art and passion.

The content of the book is on point with the author's intent of demystifying data. The presentation is well-thought, logical, and intuitive. In many cases, however, the info graphic becomes illegible owing to the color selection, typeface, and the most-irritating binding. Many lines, words, and graphics fall in the chasm of the binding and are permanently lost. It's apparent some graphics were intended for a single page in a much larger format. It appears cramming it onto two smaller and bound pages was an unfortunate concession.Overall, the book is 5 stars.Presentation is 4 (a few charts leave you wondering what question the data are meant to answer or yearning for details beyond a composite score. Also, the absence of any conclusions is irritating, albeit probably not the author's intent).The physical format is 1 star. Spiral binding would be far superior where margins are not provided.
