This is a great gate
I really love this gate. We have an odd configuration to our house so even though much of the living space is an open area, when you're in one area you can't see much in the other areas. This creates problems when the family is in one area and my two year old wanders into another, or when we are cooking, there is no way to keep her out from underfoot unless she is locked in her room, which to me isn't really a solution at all. Normal baby gates are too small for the open passageways leading from the family room to the kitchen, so I purchased this gate.It was very easy to install and I was super happy that I could angle the gate as needed to ensure that I was screwing the gate into wall studs and not just drywall. I also like that once you have it in the spot you want, angled the way you want, you can "lock" it in position. And hey, it doesn't look too bad either. It's not heavy duty wrought-iron or anything, but it's so much better than the bulky plastic or wood and plastic gates, and plenty sturdy enough. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to actually open the gate. I moved the thumb latch (which is definitely too much for a toddler to handle) but the gate wouldn't open...then I figured out that you have to move the thumb latch, then pull up on the gate, and then you can swing it open. I like that the gate will swing in either direction when you open it.The only caveats- I have found that I need to step somewhere on the gate (I usually step on the hinges right next to the gate door) before pulling upward on the gate door. Even though it's not difficult to pull it up enough to swing it open, enough pulling force is required that I feel more comfortable providing some downward pressure so the portions of the gate that are connected to the wall don't get pulled up and out of their fittings (you screw a piece into the wall and then the gate snaps downward onto that. It’s very sturdy...unless you're pulling UP on it repeatedly). Also, you will need to make sure that your toddler or other kids don't stand at the bars and shake them (during a tantrum or something). The gate has stayed put so far but I could see the possibility of it coming loose if treated very roughly. It hasn't happened yet but I would rather not take chances. But as I said before, I really love this gate. Now when we're hanging out in the family room, I can relax on the couch without either having to pop up every five seconds to bring the toddler back in the room where I can see her, or having to follow her all over the house to make sure she won't break anything or hurt herself. And if I'm cooking in the kitchen and can't have her underfoot, I can put her in the family room with her toys and shut the gate. From where I stand while cooking, she can still see me (which is good or bad depending on her mood haha) and vice versa, but I don't have to worry about tripping over her with a hot pan or anything. And I'm glad it's just vertical bars- my toddler scales the diamond-patterned baby gates by sticking her toes in them and just climbing up and right over! She can't do that with these (no toe-holds) and the bars are close enough together she can't squeeze through. I would have to double-check but I am pretty sure the bars have same or similar spacing to crib slats- close enough so a baby won't get his or her head stuck in between the bars.My older kids have no trouble either opening the gate or just stepping over. I am able to step over it as well, even though I'm only 5 feet tall, so that means we don't have to open the gate as much.Great gate overall!

Great Purchase
This is a great baby gate! We searched all over looking for a baby gate that would fit our large area and that wasn't an eye sore. The gate is quality and very sturdy. Our 9 month old has been testing it day after day trying to tear it down, but it stays firmly in place and doesn't bow in the middle like some other baby gates. We are very happy with our purchase and would highly recommend this gate!***UPDATE: My son at almost 2 years is now able to open the gate. By getting under the top gate rail and pushing up, he is able to disengage the lock mechanism without sliding the safety. For us it's not a big deal because we live in a 1-story house and are never far away (more of a way to keep him to out of the kitchen if cooking) but this could obviously be an issue if someone is using it to block stairs. Just thought this was worth noting.

Not a great gate.
Installation was a breeze! Make sure you put the gate together COMPLETELY before marking placement for the screws. Weld broke after 6 months of light use. Replacement purchased broken upon delivery.

Pretty terrible.
I am really not pleased with this product at all. Not at all user friendly to set up, the directions are a joke and there are no instructions regarding how to open the door. I finally figured out that you have to push back on a lever and then yank it up to get the bottom latch to come undone... not convenient at all, and I can't image using this with a family. Also, the door is supposed to automatically close, but it doesn't. I am only using it to separate dogs and needed something that would span a large opening, so my options were limited. It will be fine for my purposes, but I would not recommend this to anyone.

Wish it were more sturdy
Bought this gate to keep our newly crawling infant away from the stairs. We installed it yesterday. It seems to be functional and should work well for us, but I do have some concerns.PROS#1 - The door is wide and has an auto close feature and a stay open feature#2 - The bottom wall mount bracket can be positioned wherever you want it so you don't have to damage your trim to mount it.CONS#1 - the joints don't really lock into place. When they are locked, they still flex a lot, which makes me concerned they will break in the future, or pinch baby's toes as it slides on the floor#2 - There is also a lot of movement at the wall mount which also makes me concerned it will break. In all, it seems like it will do the job, but I wish it were more sturdy.

Great gate for large areas!!!
Just installed this gate and we LOVE it! We had a lot of trouble finding one that could block the stairs and the hallway next to the stairs and this works great. We were pleased that the bottom bracket was adjustable so we could install it above the floor boards which are pretty wide in our house. We used some double sided tape on the floor to make it more stable since we added an extension. Best of all it looks really nice and not like a cheap plastic gate (which is good since its not cheap!). I also love that we can lock it open after our daughter is asleep and it's such a wide opening for us to easily walk through.

We needed this but...
The support from customer service sucks! Purchased this and an extension panel. All went well until I realized we were missing an end cap and that the bar was not attached to one of the pieces, making the gate unstable. I called in and was told to email pictures, which I did. She never responded, never replaced the missing parts, and when I went to exchange through Amazon, they only offered a refund instead of a replacement, which I did not want. I wanted this gate because our foyer is odd shaped with 2 door ways leading to steps in. So I had to use gorilla glue to reattach the bar, and used a zip tie to hold it in place until that was firmly dry. With regard to the missing end stopper, I went the sculpey route, molded one out of black clay and baked. This product is AMAZING when it is functional, just don't assume it's going to have all the pieces if you purchase it.
