I remembered someone in my neighborhood from when I was growing up having this ginormous crazy purpley plant with big red seed balls. On the way to school one day I finally asked and they told me it was a castor bean plant. Very tropical looking and amazing star-shaped leaves. These seeds when they arrived we're all in what look to be and felt to be pretty good condition. They all seem to be viable. I can't say I really wound up with 50 plants, but I think that's more because I don't really remember getting 50 seeds to begin with. I'd say it was closer to 30, and all 30 grew. I planted them in many different locations and things really struggle to grow on the hillside where I live. The plants that were closest to the house stayed green and because they were in the shade, they never seem to think that blooming was important. It probably has to do with being close to the water spigot, but these plants got the biggest leaves and the tallest one made it to about 3 ft. All of the other plants never got bigger than a foot or two tall. The flowers are pretty conspicuous and some of the plants in the sunniest areas are still flowering, While others have the big Pokey looking seed pods that are finishing up. By the time I collect all the seed pods, hopefully I will now have closer to 50 seeds to plant next year. I really think the small height was because of the growing conditions at my house specifically. Would definitely buy from again, if I needed more seeds. Thankfully, despite the height, these are all seeding quite nicely. Would look amazing as an accent planted in a giant planter in a sunny area outside the house. Beans look like spotted ticks. Everyone is different and they're very unique.

These things grow super fast! Here's what I learned... use a heat mat if starting indoors. Skip the seed trays start with small pots. My seed tray is too small and the roots are already(1 week in) coming out the bottom of the tray. Don't leave the humidity dome after you start seeing the very first signs of growth... these things shot up over night and I started to fold from the lack of room in the humidity dome. The germination rate is so good with these beans and I'm so excited to see them full grown!
