Vertebrate Life

I was a biology major in the 70's and I periodically read a biology textbook to refresh my memory and keep up with what has changed. Some textbooks are dry, not Vertebrate Life. It does not get bogged down in comparative anatomy to the exclusion of more exciting topics such as behavior, evolution, historical geology and physiology. The Kardong textbook is thorough, but it is a very tough read. Vertebrate Life is very easy to read. I read it cover to cover, novel style. This the third edition I have owned over the years and the first in full color. Highly recommended for any amateur naturalist.

The latest edition of Vertebrates has several positive changes. The whole book is in color, different from previous editions that handled less color. In many topics the authors are aware of news from vertebrate research. The turtles no longer form a group of their own in Anapsida, but are as neighbors of the archosaurs (crocodiles and birds). The phylogeny of dinosaurs reflects the most recent phylogeny, proposed in 2017. As in previous editions, it is a very well written and illustrated book, recommended for all those interested in evolution and vertebrates. My only objection is the difficulty of Oxford University Press in accessing images for teaching. Being able to enter the link and access the figures is a mysterious and complicated process. Other publishers offer the buyer a unique code to access the teaching material; OUP does not make it so simple. It's a shame for those of us who have to pay so much for an expensive book.

Pages coming apart, cover ripped. I understand it's used, but for 130 dollars I was expecting better quality.

The book came with dented damaged corners, dent in the center back hard cover.

Book rental, the book is in rough shape as far as being bound to the cover.

Já conhecia o livro e acho o conteúdo excelente.Porém me decepcionei um pouco com o exemplar.Comprei o livro novo, mas ele veio com marcas de arranhões fundos na capa. E com parte da plastificação soltando na lombada.Esses danos me deixaram um tanto quanto desapontada...

The book was well packaged and has great pictures in full colour. Easy to understand and read.

Estoy muy decepcionada por esperar tanto para tener la oportunidad de comprar el libro y ahora recibirlo con casi todas las esquinas y páginas arrugadas... me gustaría que lo cambiaran por uno en mejores condiciones y que pongan atención en la manera que lo empacan para enviar

Thought I'd reeducate myself,had a notion to start at the beginning,here i am with time on my hands, so I decided on zoology,which I found interesting,it stems from college years and watching David Attenborough,also the desire to know more on the subject,as for the book Vertebrate Life,it's quite a broad approach covering the fundamentals,veering into specific areas but always interesting.
