6 Stars
If it were possible to give 6 stars, I would, for both Volume 1 and Volume 2. I flipped through both volumes and found them fascinating. I have just started reading Volume 1. The books are incredibly well researched and written in an engaging style, so that History becomes fun. There are numerous photographs, maps and pictures. The writers are well versed with science, for example they discuss the R1A mutation on the Y chromosome, which helps in tracking the spread of populations. I was an above average student at school, but I found History boring. I wish these two books were available when I was a school student. These books would have completely changed my views about History. I think these books should be read by everyone who can read. I hope they get translated into Indian languages as well. They are incredible value for money and I looking forward to slowly reading both the books over the next couple of weeks. Congratulations to both the authors. You have done the impossible. You have made History fun for me.

Not just for Children - A very engaging and comprehensive look at Indian History
This is a fabulously easy to read book on Indian history, suitable for adults as well as children. It is well classified into distinct periods. What takes this to the next level is the that each period has well presented, seemingly customised maps, and well highlighted interesting tidbits and fun facts, making it very easy to read and understand. Love their overview on what is happening in the rest of the world during each period, it puts things very nicely in perspective. A must buy for anyone remotely interested in Indian history or reading in general...

Very textbook-like
The book is for older kids who are deeply interested in knowing the history of India. Otherwise it might not engage them enough. It's more like a history textbook. Lots of info and narration is very factual. With it's simplistic narration style, adults who want a factual narration of India's timeline may find it useful. I wish DK would take this well researched content and make a visually engaging book. There is such a lack of history books about India with rich visuals along with comprehensive narrative :-(

History as never told before
Henry Ford said ‘History is bunk’ but for most of us it was the subject in school that spelt boredom and often brought tears to our eyes out of frequent yawning. But here is a book set that presents history in a manner that actually tells you an untold story. It is lucid, interesting with nuggets and anecdotes and makes you want to know more. Wow that’s a complete change of heart as far is History is concerned. The title ‘The History of India for children” –Vol 1&2 is a bit of a misnomer. Its interesting reading material for anyone who can read and understand basic English. As a matter of fact adults would find it even more fascinating. Hachette should consider renaming it “History as never told before” or something similar. A few coloured pictures may also make it more interesting in terms of presentation. Great work backed with a lot of research, this should be part of everyone’s library collection. An expanded version would be welcome since often you are left with the feeling ”Tell me more”. A must buy. Enjoy.
