A remarkable book that inspires to revise our endurance limits in reaching whatever we aspire to!
an unknown quote reads, "life is like a Marathon..". Very few would disagree with such an analogy. A reverse analogy would mean that an Ultramarathon must be akin to a great life. Then what about a life full of innumerable ultramarathons? Scott Jurek isn't the only vegan ultra marathoner out there. There are handful of runners like him, Rich Roll, Matt Fitzgerald and David Goggins etc. May be a few dozens or some hundred-odd endurance runners and a few more other endurance athletes. In all, there can't be more than a few thousands of all the 8.2 billion people. These athletes have defied limitations and have set the standards in enduring pain, hardships, and obstacles. They ran to free themselves and some have articulated the ordeal to freedom through their books. Eat and Run is one such remarkable book that inspires to revise our endurance limits in reaching whatever we aspire to. A must read to feel accompanied by such great spirits in our own runs / lives.

Inspiring
This book has inspired me to be active and eat well. Very well written. A good one for my collection to keep referring back for both information as well as inspiration.

Good book. Will read it again
Good book. Will read it again. This guy is still young, and so the story is quite current (unless you consider 15 years as prehistory, which may be the case in trail running). He was portrayed as a really good guy in Born To Run, and it is interesting to see his first person account. He goes on about his own suffering, and one wonders if he has had exposure to hopeless conditions in poorer nations. He is not particularly positive about his dad, and still seems shocked that his dad asked him to leave home. But think about it - dad with an unstable income, 3 young kids, wife in severe medical condition, the one I feel sorry for most are the parents, the mother who in her youth became paralyzed, unable to take care of 3 children she had recently given birth to, the dad who had to struggle to feed his family, raise them well, as well as take care of his wife. I think its justifiable that the dad would rather not have an undependable family member around.Anyway, the heart of this book is the running. And that is fascinating. I will read again. And as for all the recipes. I don't know if I will get a chance to try any of them, but would be great if I do. I certainly cannot relate to the folks who read it in a few hours at one go, I took my time reading it.

Want to explore yourself?
My introduction to Scott Jurek was from Born To Run. Here was the Superman of long distance running. But reading his book made me realise he is more than a Superman. He is human. Reading his trials and tribulations have left me motivated more to take the challenge of running an ultra.Coming to the book, it is both philosophical as well as practical. Why do you do what you do? If you want to explore facets of this question, take plunge. Want to gain motivation to run? Take a plunge. Want healthy and at the same time tasty tips? Take a plunge. Want to just have a good read? Take a plunge. This book ticks all the boxes. It has something to offer to every reader.Strongly recommended.

Not very motivational
I am swimming against the tide here, but I was underwhelmed by the book. I bought this book hoping that it would motivate me as a runner, which unfortunately didn't happen, because of the style of writing. The content is all good - Jurek throws in lots of anecdotes, expert knowledge of technique and recipes. Maybe the book is meant for serious runners, and not beginners like me - or possibly for a western, meat-eating audience. The book definitely encouraged me to go ahead with my plan of quitting meat in 2017.

interesting and insightfull
It is good and interesting till Scott talks about the journey of self realisation through running... Thereafter race after race it seems pain is the path and not fulfillment that Scott chose for himself... Not a happy ending but a very honest account of the lifes journey written with modesty and simplicity

Phenomenal Book on Running
This book is like a testosterone for me. My milage increased to unexpected levels. I am 5'10," weigh 89 kgs, but I am completing 6 km under 36 minutes. The journey of Scott right from his ailing mother to winning the Leadville marathon was all heart. His vegan dietary intake and his zen level determination is beautifully explained in this book. The Bliss and inner peace which he found doing Ultras are must read for anyone who has taken up some form of running.
