Excellent Must-Have Product for My Hair Type
I purchased this product to replace a Conair Hot Curling unit that was probably 10 years old. Let me be clear that the reason that the old product lasted so long was that I rarely used it until about a year or two ago-mainly because I wasn't using it properly and my hair was longer and styled differently. My hair is now just shoulder length, in lots of layers. My hair is very fine and if left to air dry will have some natural waves to it. It is color treated and very "fly away". I use this product as follows: After towel drying hair, I always use a leave-in product (I have used very expensive variations and I am happy to report that my favorite it currently a bargain, Loreal EverPure Smooth Frizz-Free Serum). Then I dry my hair on the lowest heat setting (yes, it takes a little longer but it makes a big difference) with my regular hair dryer and a round boar bristle brush. Important: do not dry completely-ends should be dry but hair should still feel very slightly damp near your scalp. I really do not style my hair at all at this stage with the brush it's just that the boar bristles will mimimize breakage while creating lift when brushing the roots up and away from the scalp. Now I am ready for the Conair 1.5. I like the barrel with the shorter bristles, it seems to work better with fine hair. THIS product will NOT make your hair curly NOR do you want to try and dry your hair with it. This product will give you volume and smoothness with ends curled under or up. I use only the high heat setting because it is not very hot. Again, my hair is just shoulder length, so I just brush a section of hair from the roots to the ends and roll it half to two thirds the way up, hold it for ten seconds and unroll. I don't "pull the brush" through. If you want a very smooth look, after finishing each section, lightly brush and use a light hair spray. If you want a more "unkempt" effect, after styling each section, allow hair to cool and style with your fingers, then spray. If you want curlier hair, keep your hair dryer handy. After the "10 second curl" turn the Conair off while your hair is still "rolled up" and blow cool air directly onto the barrel from your dryer for a few seconds until hair is cooled then unroll. I also purchased the Conair BC171CS Ceramic Ionic Hot Air Brush 1.25 Conair BC171CS Ceramic Ionic Hot Air Brush, Black, 1.25 Inch inch at the same time I purchased this one. As I mentioned, my product that died was very old and I wasn't sure which one would work best for me so I just went for both of them. I do not like 1.25 inch for myself nearly as much because: It seems to get too hot, even on the lower setting. My hair is color treated and too fine for this much heat. If you try it, you may want your hair more damp. I also do not like the size of the barrel. I have small hands and it is very unwieldy. It will "curl" your hair to a greater degree and may work well for certain hair types. I did not send it back but would recommend with caution. When making this purchase on Amazon, I noted that one reviewer raved about the difference in the "ionic" feature. I noticed zero differnce, perhaps because the higher heat of this unit cancelled out any "ionic" benefit for my hair type. If I had it to do over, I would have ordered two of the 1.5 and saved one of them until the one I am currently using dies. I love it and highly recommend for my hair type.

Best smoothing tool so far
I have really difficult hair. It’s fine in front and coarse in back, wavy in some places, super curly in others. It’s thick. There’s a lot of it. With this? It’s dried and smooth within 45 minutes. I would not be able to hold a brush and a dryer for as long as it would take to dry my hair. Blowing out my hair wouldn’t be possible without this. I wish it had tourmaline or ceramic coating but I use damage control products instead. Seriously. I have legit had one of these on hand for 22 years. I’ve lost several over time to over-use, normal wear and tear, and once, a duff item. I try to always keep a backup on hand bc I would need time to find another as good as this. The Dyson Airwrap looks incredible and if it w didn’t come with a shocking price tag, I’d pick one up. This one? The price can’t be beat. I’ve tried various brands here and abroad, but only a few are offered in this extra large barrel size. Years ago, in the UK, I picked up a Vidal Sassoon one - same size barrel! - but it takes longer to dry. Just doesn’t have the same oomph. My “travel” rating comes into the picture - despite being told it was okay to use this in a British outlet, with the voltage adjusted, and it worked beautifully - until it went *POP* very loudly and refused to start up again… hence the need for the Vidal Sassoon model. It’s a good device that does a good job consistently, at a good price. ✔️

Not for everyone
I have short, thin senior hair. I wanted to try a hot air curling iron as opposed to brush & blow dryer. For me this product works well. Doesn’t get very hot. The two brush styles work well & it dries my hair sufficiently. It does take longer to style my hair than what I was used to. The dryer is not powerful & is a bit noisy. If you have thick, curly or long hair this will not work for you. It would take you forever to style your hair if it did at all. I think the concern was to minimize heat damage in the design.

DO NOT PURCHASE! DOESN'T WORK AND CAN'T RETURN
Go ahead and do yourself a favor, save money, and purchase another product. I almost never write product reviews, but I want to save people from the headache this product causes! It doesn't have enough power to dry your hair, even after 5+ passes. It's a gentle blow that you can barely feel. I purchased this to use on my own hair (thick and curly, more African American style) as well as my wigs (thin and straight, more Asian and European style). It couldn't dry either and doesn't work across any hair type. I also tried returning the product, and I was only given the option of troubleshooting with the device. I even tried contacting Amazon customer service who also directed me to Conair's troubleshooting videos. Then when troubleshooting didn't work (no surprise), I tried to return the item again. I was told that I had to contact the manufacturer (Conair) myself. When I called Conair they don't me they don't do refunds for purchases they don't make. Since they sold the products to Amazon, that's who would refund me. So I'm stuck in a loop There is no way to contact Conair directly. Conair has no email address, so you can only call their customer service line (1-800 number). I have called multiple times and am still able to get to a person who can refund my order. The phone is an automated customer service bot that only lets you get updates on your order status or Conair's products. SO, IF YOU WANT TO TAKE THE RISK AND TRY FOR YOURSELF- BEWARE YOU CAN'T RETURN OR GET YOUR MONEY BACK!

Quality brand/item
I have used this same brand curling combo for many years. I always keep a spare in the drawer in case it decides to burn up at an inopportune time. From my experience, these last for several years, using it every day.

Disappointing - may work for some people
Just a warning - I am an old lady with a head of somewhat thin gray hair. I have been using another brand of brush dryer for over 5 years but it is having problems so I ordered this set. I ordered this unit so that I had a choice between a multiple bristle brush and the stiffer plastic brush (I liked the bristle one better). For me - this is a frustrating product. 1. There are no directions on how to change brushes. 2. Turning the ring from Lock to Open was a big challenge for arthritic hands. When I finally got the ring turned to open, open, I struggleld to pull out the small brush. 3. Then came my next challange - tryiing to insert the larger brush. There is a little piece of plastic that sticks out on the bottom of the end that goes into the handle but there is no indication if there is a place this should be inserted. After struggling for a while, I finally was able to push then new brush into the unit. 5. Now the biggest problem - anda big failure. I could NOT get the ring to turn from Open to Lock. I pulled the brush out and rotated the brush to move the position of the little piece of plastic bump. I was able to use the unit without locking in the brush - it was OK but it didn't give me the lift or the curl that I was used to with my old dryer brush. This unit may work better for someone with younger hands.

EXCELLENT LAYMAN'S ROUND BRUSH!
I've been using this for years as a professional in a salon. It DOES NOT dry your hair...unless you have thin baby hair...but when used right, this is a great layman's round brush! I use the large head only. If you airdry until about 80% dry then plug it in, let it run for a minute before using and go! Large work surface makes it fast and fool proof. The tighter you ull the more shine and smoothing effect you will have. It CANNOT damage your hair, bc its just not that hot, so don't be hasty, let it sit for a bit per section. *word of advise...don't pull it out when you are done with a section...unroll the way it went in...otherwise you will get it stuck in your hair! The hard prongs are the best way to go...as opposed to another brand with flxible brush like bristles. These only last a few months then they begin to flatten and smash down
