Trout shipped very quick
Shipped very quick and in very good condition. It’s nice to have for your collection. Very nice read and shows the plates with a list of all the materials need to tie all these great looking flies still used today. Give a lot of information on a lot on fishing and about Ray Bergman the behind the tying vise. Will be back for more great books like this. Thank you, Ken

A History of Trout Fishing and Development
TROUT, The Trout Fisherman's Bible, by Ray Bergman is a complete history of the author's immersion into the relm of matching wits with trout. The original 1938 publication has been greatly added to for the 1966-2000 revisions. If you like evolutions and history this is an absorbing book. I particularly like the late author's detailed descriptions on how he developed his respect and methods to entice trout throughout North American waters. The color plates of flies are beautifully depicted and the drawings of fishing techniques and knots are well done. There are some outmoded practices described, like using gut leader and parafin dissolved in unleaded gasoline to make fly cleaner flotant. Some of the author's fishing practices revived my appreciation of the legendary fishers in my family. It is a readable instructive book. I also liked the trade paper cover with a beautiful brown trout.

fly fishing- recollections from an originator of the sport
A wonderful read by an honest observer who describes his victories and failures without resorting to hyperbole. He offers many tips and gives advice freely, a product gained through a lifetime of trial and observation. A very enjoyable read. The fly patterns, at least in the Kindle version detract, but altogether we'll worth the effort.

A classic to be read in short segments
Trout by Ray Bergman is a classic. Tons of great information, but the world of trout fishing continues to change, and Ray Bergman is no longer here to keep updating this book. I read it in short segments, which seems best. For my taste, he did go on a bit about certain flies, but he was an excellent observer of trout behavior and he was willing to experiment and then report on what he learned. Anyone fishing for trout can learn a great deal from this book. I certainly did, and I have been trout fishing for almost 50 years.

Awesome book
I like this book. I enjoy reading from different tyers and fishermen to learn the many aspects of fly fishing. The stories accompanying patterns or their history make it an enjoyable read.

No color plates in Kindle edition
The book is in the canon of fly fishing. The author describes in detail the color plates which are disappointingly replaced in the Kindle edition with black and white pictures. There is no mention of this in the description. I think this is very bad practice.
