Entertaining
Very instructive, even amusing at times. His analyses of possible lines are impossible to follow without playing them out on the board, at least for mortals like me. Can he really see that far ahead? I guess a world champion can. The position is shown fairly often, so it's easy enough to keep up while playing through the games, and it's fun to think, "What would I do?" We even agree, once in a while. I prefer the notation for the moves in Alekhine's book, where they used capital letters for the pieces instead of the little pictures, which don't show up very well on my old Kindle, but are fine on my Samsung phone. A very good book for the chess student or fan.

Bobby Fischer's games, in his own words
This book is a collection of 60 games selected by chess master Robert Fischer, and annotated by him. It's a wonderful compendium of games played by him between 1957 and 1967. The literary introductions to the games were written by Larry Evans.Although many of the reasons for the moves in the games are well beyond a player of my level, I still felt like I was made able to understood the strategy behind the moves. Did the book help me improve my own game? Only time will tell. One word of note: The product description here on Amazon says that this book contains the Game of the Century played by Mr. Fischer when he was 15. First of all, the book does not contain the game. Second, Mr. Fischer was 13 when the game was played. Still this is an outstanding book worth owning.

One of the greatest chess books ever.
I got this book, primarily to see the killer Rf6 tactical shot against Pal Benko. Back when i first started out, i thought he gave up his rook for nothing, but now I saw what fischer was up to. The f7 pawn is blocked and cannot go to f5, and if the rook is taken, fischer would play e5, with the unstoppable mate on h7 to follow. Unless nakamura proves me wrong, i doubt another American will win the world title again as nakamura threw away a couple draws against Vidit at the candidates in toronto earlier this year, and missed out by half a point. Fabi threw away the win when he missed an opportunity to win nepo's passed pawn and missing out on forcing tiebreaks vs gukesh.

Over my head, but vastly enjoyable
What's remarkable here is how fresh and witty the young Fischer is. I've read many of the chapter intros and explanations without following the moves, simply enjoying his take on the games. As for the games themselves, I've played through about two dozen, and they represent a wide variety of attacks and defenses -- but at the same time you see Fischer establishing himself in similar ways quite frequently, and I found these patterns to be quite useful in thinking about my own game. He will at times explain his thinking (occasionally going 7,8, 9 moves forward, quite beyond the power of mere mortals), which is alternately illuminating and confusing, but other times he presents a move as being de rigueur, when its motivation is completely obscure to me. So be it, he's Bobby Fischer.

Bobby Fischer's “My 60 Memorable Games” is an entertaining, informative, and essential tool for any chess player.
A long time ago, when I was a teenager learning how to play chess, I owned a paperback copy of “My 60 Memorable Games” by the late chess Grandmaster Bobby Fischer (1943-2008). It was a book I enjoyed tremendously, and from which I learned a great deal. Unfortunately, I lost my copy of this book many years ago.I recently found “My 60 Memorable Games” in a Kindle edition published by Batsford Press. I immediately purchased it. My overall reaction to this Kindle version of Bobby Fischer’s classic book is mostly positive. It contains the same excellent writing by Bobby Fischer. He writes about each of the 60 games he played against various opponents in clear and concise prose that demonstrates the depth of his pure chess genius. He does an excellent job of avoiding jargon, and for the most part, refrains from engaging readers with boring anecdotes about past victories and defeats. The layout for this Kindle edition of “My 60 Memorable Games” is satisfactory. The print is large and set in an easy to read font. Batsford opted to use algebraic rather of English descriptive notation, which makes the book much easier to use.My only complaint is one that I have for most Kindle versions of chess books: the low quality of the chess diagrams. The relatively few diagrams that appear in “My 60 Memorable Games” look like they were copied directly from a newspaper. They are small, blurry, and nearly impossible for my 60-plus year old eyes to decipher.Despite this significant flaw, I have spent many hours reviewing the games that Bobby Fischer has chosen to include in “My 60 Memorable Games,” and I have learned a lot from them. “My 60 Memorable Games” remains an entertaining, informative, and essential tool for any chess player. Recommended.

I've been waiting many years for this book!
This book was previously out of print and very difficult to find for many years. The annotations are by Fischer himself and are deeply instructive and entertaining. I play through the games, covering the moves with a card, and try to guess Fischer's next move. If you do this, all phases of your game will improve - the opening, the middlegame, and the endgame. This book is easily one of the best chess books ever printed. If you are serious about chess, you simply must own this classic.

This is the book you want
I owned the original issue many years ago and then owned a reissue a few years later. With both in tatters (because of constant use), I opted for this recent reissue. I have no doubt that the previous issue from Batsford (which I did not own) was a travesty. But they have corrected it with this copy, save for the change in notation. Besides that, the size of the book seems to be the same size as the original publication. No need to spend money on a used, tattered original. This will do ya just fine.

Fischer's book in the context of our time.
Bobby Fischer's 'My 60 Memorable Games' is a classic that is finally updated into our modern figurine notation with no other changes made from the original version (save the one useful change the above reviewer noted). It was one of my first read chess books and the notes are the best example of a very-strong grandmaster (who later became world champion) of just enough detail and variations all taken out of his own thoughts. It should not be overlooked that an added and very important ingredient of this books readability is Grandmaster Larry Evan's insightful introductions to each game which helps set the stage for Fischer's own take on what actually happened thereon. For this reason it definitely ranks as one of the very best (and usefully instructive) chess books of its time. I would put some of Botvinnik's, Bronstein's and especially Tal's 'Life and Games' chess books in the same category of greatness. This being said, technology has very-much changed the way that chess is presented and studied by most everyone. (There being software, videos and now streaming media). For young people studying the game today I see this as an early book (much like reading collections by Alekhine, Cabablanca, Nimzovich, and Reti), for you to read on your path to educating yourself towards becoming a better and better player! I hope this doesn't come off as a disparagement of Bobby Fischer's great work in any way - It is simply that there is now more than ever a huge variety of chess products to choose from, a good percentage of which is also great and worthy of the chess buyer's consideration.Lawrence TamarkinUSCF Life Master
