Works if used properly
I've seen several reviews for these RJ-45 "splitter" products that assert they don't work. Like some other reviewers who have commented about the bad reviews, I believe the bad reviews are because the reviewer failed to realize what these are intended to do and how they work. They DO NOT work like this: (1)--<(2) where one RJ-45 router port is expected to communicate with two devices. They DO work like this: (2)>--<(2) where two RF-45 router ports are used to communicate with two devices via one cable. This kit works perfectly for me to attach two laptops to two ports on the router while using only one LAN cable under the carpet to the other side of the room from the router. Do note that this kit comes with only THREE short cables; the fourth and needful cable is "no host bar" so to speak.

Simple problem solver
I had an Apple TV in my living room connected to a router in my den through 30ft of Cat5 cable. I recently bought a Yamaha receiver with net radio and used this kit to connect it to the router through the same cable. It works great and is simple to install. There is no interference between the two units. Remember, though, you must use two ports on your router. You must also obtain another patch cable to complete the installation. Initially, I wondered why the manufacturer didn't just throw in the missing cable, but it soon became apparent that the fourth cable had to be of a variable length to suit personal need.

nice and easy
Had all the other needed hardware in place for years and not able to run a second cable. I had to manually switch my cable for the different sources. This easy solution solved my inconvenient problem in 5 minutes. Has been working great about a month now.

I guess what I really needed was a "hub"
First off, I'm not a tech guy, and perhaps I'm not using the product for what it was meant to do. But I've got a PS3 and an xbox360 and an ethernet-ready TV on the other end of my house, and only one ethernet cable run over there. I was tired of unplugging and plugging the cable to the device I needed to use. Anyway, it doesn't really work - or it's very spotty. After running this by my geeky friends, they confirmed it and said you need a device that actively separates bandwidth and assigns ISPs or something. Anyway, long story short, I needed a "hub", which looks just like my "router" except it only cost $30 and was easy to install. Don't want to knock the product, like I said, perhaps I wasn't using it the way the mfr. intended. But if you're hoping you can use it to just add ethernet plugs like a telephone splitter I guess it's more complicated than that! Good luck.

Good product... if used correctly.
I've purchased several of these kits and actually used the 'method' before by creating the splitter myself. They work very well. This kit takes advantage of the fact that most network cables have two extra pairs of wires. It splits the 4 pairs in the cable into two sets of two pairs to create two network connections over one 4-pair cable. You do need an extra port on your switch or router for the second connection. If that is not available, you need to buy a small 4 or 5 port switch instead and put it where you need more connections.

Not Ethernet cords
These are telephone cords, not Ethernet cords. Be aware

Works Great!
This product works as expected. The connections were easy and simple. Took all but 5 minutes maximum to install and have had zero issues. If you have a single connection from your router but need to connect to two computers this the way to go.
