Compact Rice Cooker That’s Perfect for Small Meals
The Dash Mini Rice Cooker is a really convenient appliance for anyone who wants to make smaller portions without using a full-size rice cooker. Its compact design doesn't take up much counter space, making it especially useful for small kitchens, dorm rooms, apartments, or anyone cooking for one or two people. The single-serve design is one of my favorite features. It makes preparing rice simple without having to use a large appliance for a small meal. The nonstick removable pot is also convenient because it makes serving and cleanup much easier. The keep-warm function is another useful feature. It helps keep the cooked rice warm until you're ready to eat, which is convenient when you're preparing other parts of a meal at the same time. I also really like the aqua color and sleek design. It looks fun and modern while still being small enough to fit easily on a countertop or store in a cabinet when it's not being used. The removable cooking pot makes cleanup straightforward, and the simple design means there aren't a lot of complicated controls to figure out. It's a good choice for someone who wants an easy way to prepare rice without needing a large, complicated appliance. Overall, the Dash Mini Rice Cooker is a convenient and space-saving kitchen appliance. The compact size, single-serve design, nonstick removable pot, keep-warm function, and easy cleanup make it a great option for smaller meals and everyday cooking.

Amazing rice cooker
I love rice, but have never mastered how to cook it in a pot the "normal" way. I've had multiple people show me how and tell me it's so easy to cook rice in a regular pot, but we clearly have different definitionns of "easy," or I just have some secret skill that makes me fail at cooking rice in a pot. I resorted to the boil-in-a-bag kind of rice because that was the only way I could get it cooked properly, without it burnt to the bottom and crunchy and the mushy in other spots. Then, enter this rice maker. I followed their instructions and filled their measuring cup with rice up to the line, added it to the pot with some salt, and then filled their measuring cup all the way with water, dumped it in, and pressed the "cook" button. (I did not rinse the rice; no one in my family does and I had no idea it was even a thing. Its never affected how my rice cooks, so I don't intend to start doing so either. I did expect it to take less time initially...not sure why), but when it did flip from "cook" to "warm" and I checked the rice, it was done perfectly. Nothing burned to the pan, no mushy spots, just fully cooked, delicious rice. I've followed the same procedure every time and gotten basically perfect rice every time. If you don't get to the pot right away, the rice will start to get a bit brown on the bottom and cook together a bit, but when you add butter and other food to the rice I've never noticed a burnt or bad taste; just that it's a bit more stuck together than usual. I have had a few occasions where it did start to boil over, and that's generally when I accidentally spilled water when adding it to the pot and guestimated how much I split and probably added more than it needed. Otherwise I've never had it boil over or make much of a mess at all, maybe beyond a few splatters... which is much less mess than I ever got making rice in the stove, where it would constant boil over, so I have no issues with the occasional splatter. It's cooking...there's sometimes a mess...that's just how it goes. Regardless of whether it boils over or not, it's super easy to clean; I just use a dishcloth and soapy water and any starch or other residue comes off quickly and easily. Again, far less time spent cleaning the cooker pot than I would spend cleaning an actual pot of rice, were I to attempt to do so, so I have no quarrels with that either. I just make sure to plug it in some place that isn't right next to something I don't want accidental rice water on (textbook, Alexa, phone, etc). I've should note I've only ever cooked rice in it despite owning it for years. Gluten free noodles take forever to cook on the stove in general and since I tend to make a big batch at once, using the Dash for noodles just hasn't made sense. And I don't eat oatmeal all that often, nor quinoa or other such things. Despite being basically a one function appliance for me, I'm perfectly happy with it because I can finally have good rice whenever I want, and not the stuff boiled in a bag. Also, I've used this in multiple places throughout the country, and have never had to change my regular procedure much, if at all. (Granted, I've never cooked rice at a super high altitude, so maybe that would require alterations to my process.) Aside from cooking rice perfectly, the Dash rice cooker just looks cute. Mine is red (to match my other kitchen appliances and decor/accent colors), and even when I had a microscopic kitchen the thing as hardly a concern because it's so small that it doesn't take much counterr space when using it, nor much space to store it. Though...once you buy the cute little Dash rice maker, you might end up with their little waffle maker and a few other Dash appliances, so storage space may eventually become a concern! If you're second guessing buying the Dash rice maker, I'd just go for it. It might take some experimentation to get enough water to cook rice but not boil over everywhere...but having tried to scrub boiled on stains and gunk from the stove from a "regular" pot of rice that boiled over, cleaning up after the Dash is still far easier and quicker. Plus it's basically set and forget; once you figure out the timing for the pot of rice to cook, it's easy enough to ask Alexa to tell you to check the rice in X minutes, and then you won't have to hover around waiting for the switch to flip over to "warm" (or nervously stare at the pot and hope it turns out okay!). You get 1-2 servings of delicious and perfectly cooked rice (depending on if your serving size is eating all the rice you cooked, or saving half of it) for very little effort and monitoring, and can focus on the rest of your meal...or Netflix (no judgement here!).

Perfectly cooked rice for one.
I'd had a rice cooker before and it was a piece of junk, so I was leery of getting another one, but I'm glad I got this one. It is absolutely PERFECT. It's just the right size for cooking rice for one. And it comes out perfectly every time. It's a very pretty color too, which doesn't impact the quality of the operation, but it's a cheerful, fun color and looks nice in my kitchen. Very happy with this purchase.

Handy if you don't have a cooktop available
This little cooker would be helpful if you don't have a stove cooktop available, as it does boil liquids to cook some things, in small amounts. For cooking rice you definitely have to get your rice-to-water proportions just right, which took some trial and error even following the directions to a tee. I used the directions for white rice on page 13 the first few times but the rice was overcooked mush and had begun to stick before the cooker switched from Cook to Warm. I finally got better results by watching it and unplugging it while it was still on Cook when I heard it start to sizzle and stick, although that defeated the purpose of using a rice cooker. The last batch of rice finally turned out well without any intervention; I used 1/2 Dash scoop of jasmine rice and 3/4 Dash scoop of water, but I did not rinse the rice that time. I think the amount of water must need to be reduced if you rinse the rice as directed, or else it overcooks. The included Dash scoop holds 6 fl. oz., or 3/4 of a standard 8-oz measuring cup. The cooker held 1 Dash scoop of rice and the added water to just below the "1" line on the pot (water added after the rice had been put in) as per page 13. After it started boiling it overflowed through the steam vent in the lid but did not overflow the sides of the pot. Therefore I think that is about the maximum practical capacity unless you want a mess. The overflow made the lid rim a little hard to clean, although it wasn't really a problem. Nowhere does it say the cooking pot insert or glass lid are dishwasher safe, so I didn't put any of the items in the dishwasher. (Of course the electric base isn't submersible.) Unlike page 13, page 14 gives amounts in standard measuring cups but I don't think it would hold 1 standard measuring cup of rice plus enough water without overflowing the sides, as several reviews have noted. Also a couple of the included recipes are too large for the pot. The manual needs a little work. At 300 watts it's going to be a little slow to start boiling, taking from 10 to 20 minutes to start, depending on the volume of water I used. For most things I think it would be easier to just cook them in a saucepan on your cooktop if you have one available. Rice can be tricky so it's probably good for that, once you figure out the right rice-to-water ratio to use. It can make enough for one or probably two people. Families would need something larger. Like the other tiny Dashes, it is cute (I have the white one) and it doesn't use much counter or storage space. It seems well made. It could also be used to cook a small amount of something else that mainly requires boiling in a liquid. (It might be safer than a cooktop for someone who gets distracted or is forgetful, as it should switch to Warm if the water boils out.) The included 6-oz "cup" (Dash scoop) and the non-scratch utensil are useful.

Great Rice Cooker Definitely Recommend!
This rice cooker couldn’t be easier to use. You get great tasting rice every time. Perfect for Single People or Couples. Takes up barely any space, fast cooking time, it goes with any appliance in your kitchen and it’s a cute machine with great performance with every use. Comes with a small measuring cup, but you can use standard measuring cups for both wet and dry rice. Great product for the value.

Mini cooker single person sized
Dorm essential; a small rice cooker. This is VERY small however. If you have only one person, it's suitable but if you are dealing with two or more, a 5 cup minimum would be better. The size of this unit is compact enough to toss into a suitcase or store in small quarters. This is a simple rice cooker with a press-down button for turning it on, a keep-warm function and an automatic shutoff. It works by thermostat; as the temperature rises when the water has boiled off and been absorbed by the food, the temperature spike makes the spring contact drop back, and the heat shuts off. No "fuzzy logic" here. Simple operation. Because the unit is small, cooking things like porridge will mean it possibly boils over. I had to put a kitchen towel under it to cook one serving of steel cut oats (they foam up) and it was a bit messy on the lid. The instructions do warn about boiling over. If you're using this, I'd put a towel under it as a matter of course. Cooking: I did regular Japanese short grain rice, steel cut oats, mixed grain porridge and a "Dutch Baby" pancake. The recipe for the pancake is included in the booklet, which has a number of recipes. All of them came out ok; the rice was slightly more wet and less cooked thoroughly than in my regular, large fancy rice cooker but it was fine to eat. The porridge boiled over (as I mentioned) and the Dutch Baby was really good. It's a large recipe requiring several batches to be poured in and cooked for two cycles. I'd halve the recipe next time, but it was a nice little breakfast made with milk, egg, flour and sugar, with a dab of jam or some fresh fruit, powdered sugar or syrup for extras The unit comes with a booklet including recipes (useful), a paddle for scooping the rice, and a measuring cup. My cup was cracked (thin plastic) but I already had a standard measuring cup for rice. This cup was a bit on the thin side and didn't survive the packaging. Dash doesn't make a mid sized (6 cup) rice cooker, only a family sized large one, so if you have need of more food than single servings, I'd get a different brand model that can do 5-6 cups of rice, which will feed two or three easily. But for dorm cooking, single person, tiny kitchen or traveling and cooking say, because you need to be gluten-free while traveling, this is perfect and very compact.

Needs an outlet timer, no buzzer inconsistent results.
Overall a positive opinion, with caveats. A) The good: this is a compact unit that lives on the counter and earns the space it takes up. When it works properly, it quickly makes a great bowl of rice. Much smaller and faster and cheaper than a Zorushi. B) The not so good: the unit has no auto-off and will remain in warmer mode until its unplugged. (You really need a countdown timer outlet for safety and energy saving.) Reliability is another problem. Sometimes the unit will prematurely switch from cooking to warming mode, so rice is uncooked or undercooked. There is no buzzer when cooking is done. So you need to keep an eye on it, which takes away from the convenience.

Compact and useful
This was a pretty great addition to the kitchen, with the caveat that you aren't trying to cook for a big group. It does a good job, is simple and versatile, is easy to clean, and doesn't take up much real estate. That size is actually an advantage for me. I don't have a lot of countertop space, am single and live alone, so it's pretty much ideal for me. When I'm cooking dinner for more than myself it's typically when my girlfriend has come over when I'm making dinner, and this size still makes more rice than we need, and if I'm meal prepping I typically have enough for 2 to 4 meals, depending on the menu I'm working on. Overall, I feel like it was a good buy, and it saves me the shame of using converted rice(which I don't really mind, but it isn't as good as the rice this dash cooker makes,) or scrubbing burned rice from a pot that was used for stovetop cooked rice.
