Better than U-Green wires!
This wire is really good for my Crucial BX500 SATA SSD 2TB, 2.5" Internal SSD. (yes I know, it says internal), but because I like to "go on the move" with storage, this wire helps me a lot with that. The wire has been through so many travels and not a single issue with it. I do have it in a case. The wire is really easy to "use". What I mean by that is - you just connect your drive and then plug the other end into a laptop or PC (or phone/tablet) and works perfectly. It fit's pefectly in bags, just be carful to not bend the connector if you keep it connected to your storage drive. It might look "long" and flexible but that is the wire, not the connector pins which you can bend pretty easily if you are careless. Easy to connect to any storage drive so long as you are not forceful with it.

Really useful, especially for a Raspberry Pi SSD drive
Update Nov 2018 I've been using a couple of these at home, and found them very useful and versatile. Perfect for connecting SSDs to a PC for formatting, etc., and work extremely well in combination with cheap 32Gb SATA SSDs with Raspberry Pi 3B and 3B+ computers. They will also power 2.5 SATA hard drives, should you wish to use them. I'm a teacher, and recently acquired for my classroom a complete set of Raspberry Pi 3Bs. I use 20+ of these cables with 32Gb SSDs to provide the working environment for my pupils. These cables *just work*, and make the task of getting the pupils up and running at the start of each lesson really easy. Top recommendation. Great piece of kit. There may be cheaper alternatives on Amazon, but I'm sticking with these for the next classroom I fit out. ---- Purchased to allow the connection of a cheap 30Gb SSD to a Raspberry Pi 3B, to act as the OS drive for an experimental server. Worked flawlessly, and even can work with a 500Gb 2.5" SATA drive I had kicking around -- powered from the Pi, which in turn was powered by a USB to microUSB cable from a monitor! This, plus a cheap SSD make the Pi an excellent and reliable tool -- I cannot rely on microSD cards for longevity, and USB flash drives, though an acceptable substitute, are not as good as an SSD and one of these cables. Highly recommended.

Created bootable hard drive with this
I have not tried booting using this adapter, but I have successfully created a bootable hard drive with this using grub-install on Ubuntu. I no longer need to have a SATA cable hanging out of the PC case to prepare bootable hard drives :) This is fantastic because the last SATA to USB adapter, identified in dmesg as: JMicron Technology Corp. / JMicron USA Technology Corp. JM20337 Hi-Speed USB to SATA & PATA Combo Bridge - just showed a Grub error 2 instead of booting. What happens is the cheaper SATA to USB adapters detect and report the wrong sector size of the hard drive. This is generally not a big problem as it only affects the first 512B of the hard drive but is a problem if you are creating bootable hard drives. To circumvent this you need to create 512B-sectored loopback backed by some data, doing things like kpartx -a /dev/loop0 - basically a huge pain in the ass. This adapter however, identified as Product: ASMT1051 Manufacturer: asmedia SerialNumber: 12345678A071 successfully creates bootable hard drives without any workarounds so thumbs up! Performance wise however, it takes over 4 minutes to prepare a hard drive using this vs 3 minutes to prepare connecting to an eSATA on the motherboard.

FAB, no issues on an old laptop running windows 10. Only issue was me... remember to initialise and format the new SSD!
I bought the Startech USB to SATA cable to clone my Samsung 700Z laptop gard drive to a Sandisk Ultra II 960GB SSD. I connected the cable to the SSD and to the USB on my laptop any although I had the 'new hardware sound' but no drive appeared under 'my computer'. At first I thought like some reviewers that this cable wouldn't work with my laptop as the USB didn't provide enough power. So I tried it in a desktop and the same. Both with windows 10. I then tried a Dell tablet and again no joy. I did the standard google search and there were two things I needed to do. 1) Initialise the new SSD and 2) Format the new SSD. After doing both (google it to see how) the drive was now visible. I downloaded Macrium cloning software (the free version) and set in off while I went to plan tennis. Two hours later all cloned and no errors. It took about 10 minutes to remove the back of the laptop and replace the HDD with the SDD. WOW... what a difference. The laptop boots in less than 5 seconds and works so quickly. No errors, no problems, perfect. The lead and SSD are both fab, I had no problems with an old laptop running Windows 10. No drivers to download, it just worked (though remember to initialise and format the SSD. Not a full format, just a quick format. Good luck!

Fine, working product.
It's a pretty simple product so I can't go into that much depth with this review. The first thing to say is that it functions perfectly well. It fits nicely and the hard drive connects as well as it did with my old eSATA (now redundant thanks to new motherboard). Here come speed tests: 465mb exe file from HDD using this cable to internal SSD: min = 4.42s (how is this even possible?) max = 15.00s average = 12.404s average transfer rate = 37.49mb/s 465mb exe file from internal SSD to HDD using this cable: min = 17.10s (how is this even possible?) max = 17.22s average = 17.17s average transfer rate = 27.08mb/s It feels reasonable well made although obviously they haven't made any effort to make it aesthetically pleasing, but that doesn't really matter. It feels like it won't break when left behind my computer for years.
