Review: just okay - I appreciate the author's specifics on our incredibly active braincells. Beyond this, the book would be more appropriately categorized as a stress management primer. There's nothing new or novel; it's a compilation of all the basics about stress management, plus some basic psychological theories and a quote or two from some male "greats" such as Tony Robbins. There are, in fact, pieces of advice that could be detrimental if taken seriously. For example, the author advises the reader to say you're "great" when asked how you're doing but you aren't great. As a mental health professional, and human, I don't advise this type of disingenuous behavior. There are reference to studies, without citations. There are quite a few typos and spelling errors; editing is needed. Finally, a problem I've found with many self-help books is the "Just do it!" advise. It's not so easy. In fact, this advise can feel patronizing and hurtful to people. The glass is neither exclusively half-empty or full; it's both. Review: Overthinking - I always overthink things and that is probably why i have anxiety and stress. This book is great to read and learn more about why & how. And how to stop overthinking things. I feel better after reading this and understand my head a little more. I will continue to use what i have learnt in this book until i am completely free from stress & anxiety and over thinking. Great read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
