It is NOT oil! It is a slide lubricant and not a petroleum product like valve oil.
12/19/2023 several years later. Still the best slide lube. They upgraded the bottle so it has a better applicator tip. No drip, no mess. I'm on my third bottle, I gave one half bottle to a student player. Look on YouTube for Bill Watrous slide cleaning video. Following his method and using the Yamaha slide lube, even a rough slide will improve. I've used this method on a few school horns and have helped the school avoid taking a couple horns to the repair shop. Now back to my original review. This is NOT an oil or petroleum product! I recently purchased a used King 3B. The slide tolerances are much closer than my 80 year old E.K. Blessing. I had been using a slide cream but this wasn't working on the King. After recommendations from other trombone players and reading reviews on Amazon and other sites I had to decide between Yamaha and Slide o mix. I didn't want to mess with mixing part A with part B and try to figure out the right ratio so Yamaha slide lube won. I cleaned my slide using the Bill Watrous method he outlines on his YouTube video and applied the Yamaha slide lube. What a difference. Two nights earlier (before I got the Yamaha lube) I was at an open jam and was constantly spraying water on my slide. After cleaning my slide and using the Yamaha lube I couldn't believe the difference! A two hour practice session and I only had to spray a tiny bit of water once at the beginnig of my practice and once after about an hour. Here's the important to remember. Clean your slide thoroughly and get all the old shmoo out. Then use just a little bit. As I said above, this in NOT a petroleum product. It is more like a liquid slide cream type of lubricant. I think something was lost in translation. I'll buy it again.

My go to trombone slide lubricant!
This stuff is the best. I've used all the others and nothing compares. There's no mixing, no getting your fingers greasy, just apply and play. I like to spray a little water too, but that's just me. Each application lasts for a good amount of time, and with the amount of playing I do, I only to apply this stuff once a week, if not longer. I highly recommend Yamaha Trombone Slide Lubricant.

Most Trombone Players Use This
This is now the default slide lube we see most trombone players using. I had used various Slide-O-Mix for years, then this came along and I switched. I'd caution that this stuff is best not left in HOT CAR, because it can become watery and less effective if exposed to much heat. Clean your slide, then apply this lube in modest amounts. Move the slide up and down a few times and it will distribute readily over the whole inside slide tube. You do not need huge amounts. This lube will give you a good slide feel assuming your slide is aligned, chrome is entirely intact, and no dents are in any of the tubes.

Recommended by the best Brass Shop in the L.A. Area (where I bought my horns)
This oil was recommended/supplied when I bought my new Getzen 1060 bass trombone & pre-owned 1047 tenor trombone from The Horn Guys (formerly Ferguson's) in La Crescenta; best slide stuff I've ever used. After you wipe the slides dry, you just squeeze it on. The stuff seems a bit "creamier" than other oils and liquid creams, (which is probably why it seems to last longer & have smoother action) but I never need to use a bone bottle - even after the stuff has been on for several days - it just stays moist & slick. When it's spent, you just wipe the inner slides, squirt some more on, work it around a slide at a time, and the slide works like new for another several days of busy playing; I never have to worry about getting the right consistency - it just seems to go on right every time. (I wonder if it's got silicone in it) I've also used this stuff on a couple of students' horns that had bad slides, & I was surprised at how well this stuff got their slides working again. It's a good idea before you use it, to use a cleaning rod wrapped in a strip of cheeze cloth or T-shirt - to get what you formerly used out of the outer slides, to get the best slide action. Also, make sure you shake the bottle before each use. (Now that I'm at the end of the bottle, it seems thinner) Once you've prepped & gotten it on your slides, you're gonna love this stuff!

OMG, I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS GOOD OF A SLIDE CREAM!
This Trombone slide cream is literally magical! I previously had a somewhat good-dented slide that you could totally hear the scratching. But as soon as i put a few drops on each slide……oh boy…..HEAVENLY, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON ANY OTHER SLIDE CREAMS

The Yamaha Trombone Slide Oil is the best thing ever, but....
I've used just about everything a trombone player has herd of to use on their slide. I've used trombotine, slide-o-mix,superslick, and a lot of different slide oils. Don't be confused by the name "Oil", it's really more of creamy goo, kinda like slide-o-mix, but better. I would assume they use the name oil because you just put it on, and you don't need anything else. Make sure you clean your slide completely before putting this on, also it takes a bit for it to kick in and it lasts about a month. The only reason I gave this a 4/5 is because I never received the Yamaha Trombone Slide Oil, but instead received Yamaha Trombone Slide Lubricant. If you order this item, make sure it says OIL and not LUBRICANT. They are in the same looking bottle but the only difference is the name, the cap, and what is inside, and trust me, you do not want the lubricant; it is worse than superslick.

Better than Trombotine.
I swore by Trombotine for decades. This lasts longer, applies easier, is FAR less messy than the leaky aluminum tubes, and stores easier. It's synthetic, so clean your slide and stalks first, just to be safe, and a small water mist spray bottle gives an extra boost. Get one.
