I love the book Endurance
I love the book Endurance, and I wanted to get my nephew his own version of the story. This book is matched well to his reading level, and the illustrations are gorgeous. Really a wonderful Christmas gift, and a tremendous subject matter.

FANTASTIC Shackleton bio
I'm a bit of a Shackleton buff but have struggled to find the right book to introduce him to my daughter. After several disappointments, we found "Trapped By the Ice." It is terrific! I highly recommend this book - have given several copies as gifts.

Good book!
Recently returned from a trip to the Antarctic where I met Chris wilson, the grand-nephew of Dr. Edward Wilson who accompanied Robert F. Scott to the south Pole and died there with him. A naturalist with a specialty in ornithology, Chris's passion is contagious. So I found this book for my grandsons, age 7 and 5, and was impressed with the book's beautiful artwork as well as the simple way Scott's story is told. During this trip I also met an anthropologist who'd met Peter Scott, Robert Scott's son who was 2 years old when his father died. found out that JM Barry and Robert Scott were close friends and that Peter was the model and inspiration for 'Peter Pan'.

good introduction for kids to Shackleton's expedition
On Oct. 27, 1915, Sir Ernest Shackleton had to abandon his ship, the Endurance, and his plan to sled all the way across Antarctica because the ship was destroyed after having become trapped in ice. The complete story of how Shackleton and his entire crew survived and were rescued is told for older readers in Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing. The early days of the voyage and confinement on ship are recounted for a slightly younger set from the perspective of the ship’s cat in Mrs. Chippy’s Last Expedition: The Remarkable Journal of Shackleton’s Polar-Bound Cat by Caroline Alexander.Alexander’s account ends on Oct. 29, when Mrs. Chippy perished, and Trapped by the Ice! basically picks up the tale for beginning readers at that point and carries it on through their survival on the ice, the crew’s voyage on the three small boats to uninhabited Elephant Island, Shackleton’s further voyage to the whaling station on South Georgia Island arriving on May 20, 1916, and their ultimate rescue without the loss of any human life. The narration is illustrated with realistic paintings of landscapes, ice, and ocean, based on stills taken by Shackleton’s photographer. It is a good introduction to Shackleton’s expedition for kids, skipping some of the details that might not be of interest to them.

Nice Artwork!
This book is good for the kids, it skips some of the material covered in the movie to keep it short. The movie is great too.

a good book for children
My 7 year old granddaughter is studying the artic and antarctic virtually from school. I told her about Shackleton which she hadn't learnt about. I sent her this book which arrived the following day, thank you Amazon, and she sat down and read it cover to cover and really found it interesting.
