Good alternative as a temporary rack system
I was trying find a way to attach my cargo carrier to my folding tonneau cover and was pleasantly surprised how well this worked out. The price and ease of use was exactly what I was looking for. The rubber pads don't stay on the tower base, but once its strapped down it didn't matter. Definitely worth while if you are looking for an inexpensive rack system for a temporary basis.

Good value for the price
I am happy with this product as a solution to a lack of a roof rack on my older car (1997). These cross bars are very sturdy and easily hold the weight of my 71 lbs 8 ft row boat. I bought them so I would have something to set my boat on because I didn't want to set it on my bare roof.I attached the cross bars to my car's bare roof and then attached the row boat to the car - the boat easily rested (upside down) on the crossbars. I then went for a very short test drive - 3-4 blocks - to see if everything stayed in place - and it did except for one of the rubber caps that go on the end of the cross bars which fell off somewhere & I didn't notice it gone until the next day. These caps would not stay on and there was really no way to make them fit tighter but they don't affect the functionality of the cross bars.A couple things that were less than perfect: I did not realize until I assembled the cross bars that the telescoping feature is limited to where there are pre-drilled holes which is probably fine for most situations however I would like them an inch wider than where I have them set now but the next increment is more like 3 inches wider. Also, the feet that attach to the bottom of the 4 towers don't stay attached once they are off the car roof; and on the car roof they really slid around even after cleaning the roof and tightening the strap to the max. However for my purposed it didn't matter because I attached the boat to my car front and rear and around the middle with separate straps.

I had a problem
The first time I used this to hold two (light weight) kayaks, it worked perfectly. The kayaks were mounted on cradles that were fixed to the roof rack. The straps inside the car take some getting used to, especially the one in front of the driver's head, but apart from that, it was all good. The second time I used it, with the same kayaks, the front Clamp Strap suddenly gave way while I was driving, fortunately only at 30 mph. This caused the rack to shift and one of the feet to break, dropping the rack onto the roof of the car. I was able to stop quickly before anything else happened. As a result I now have several deep scratches on the roof of my car.Glad to say we were able to get home without further incident, so it was a relatively minor issue, but one that could all too easily have been much more serious.I went to the notes received with the rack to get contact details, but discovered that there is no phone number with the instructions, nor is there an address. In fact there are no contact details at all.I have written an email via the Amazon site and am awaiting a response.

Great rack if your mechanical inclined.
Very sturdy bars much better than expected. Used two of my Huskey ratchet straps over the ones it came with. Went together in about 15mins first setup. Once together should come on and off in couple minutes. Boots are slightly shaped so pay attention this is very important to them staying on the rack. If installed correctly rack works great. Very sturdy and very affordable option if you only need racks occasionally.

Dissatisfied
I was unable to get most of the pieces tied enough in order for them to work properly. Some of the bolts did not fit through the designated holes to the point where the nuts would be able to tighten the pieces together. Because the product was opened as a gift later than the return date, I am now stuck with a faulty product. I advise you to take the product out of the box and make sure everything fits properly as soon as possible in case there’s a need for a return.

Perfect for a car with no real track or if ...
Perfect for a car with no real track or if you don't want to pay $500 for custom. I put them on my new Lincoln. Yes, they leak when a bit it is raining, so what. What do you expect. If you are driving for 8 hours in the rain, that might be a problem for you, pay up and get the ones made for your car. I use these on my new car and go on the highway, no problem. Great purchase. If you need to know if it will fit you car look at the measurements and go measure your car. It takes 2 minutes. Thank you Rage Powersports.

Not worth it
This takes “you get what you pay for” to a whole new level. The bars and straps are very easy to assemble. The quality isn’t too bad minus the rubber feet....they are garbage. That’s about the extent of the good; the bad...these do not secure well at all. Strapped down as tight as I could and still moves.I would not recommend this product.

Affordable alternative for short distances and lighter loads
Well, you get what you pay for. I agree with the other reviews concerning the detachable foot pads. They don't fit that well and fall off easily. I'm going to attach mine with some kind of adhesive and then glue rubber pads to the bottoms for better gripping adhesion to the car roof. Also, I'm going to replace the straps with a ratcheted "come along" type mechanism for a tighter fit. Currently, I just can't get the racks tight enough to the roof by pulling the straps by hand combined with the provided clamp system.I use the racks combined with a Thule Goal Post hitch adapter to haul 4'x8' sheets of plywood on top of my 2009 Honda Fit. It's only 5 miles to the lumber yard, and I drive slowly on side streets and not on the highway. I wouldn't trust these racks for longer distances or at highway speeds with a heavy load but they do the job and are an affordable solution as compared to having to rent another vehicle or trailer. That's why I give them four stars.
