Beginner's Guide to Embedded C Programming - Volume 3: Creating the SimpleC Library of Functions

plus and minus
Overall, I liked this book. At first the author describes the various development bds the he was evaluating for the book, and then he introduces the Chipino mini breadboard modules as his choice to base the book on. I don't necessary agree with his choice, since up front it made this a confusing choice due to the pin number assignment which is silk screen on the module itself. The pin assignment is not for the PIC micro, but for a Arduino. After getting used to that fact, all of his schematics show pin outs for both the PIC and the silk screened pin outs, so you get used to it. The Simple C library he created does make the tasks from the previous volumes concise, however if you want to learn embedded c, it is best to start vol 1 and vol 2. I do wish he would have included a key pad project, which doesn't appear in any volume.

Good instructional book
This book is a written very well for learning how to program the PIC 16 Microcontroller. I got the book because it had examples on how to program the PIC Microcontroller and how to implement the I2C protocol. I ended up getting all 3 of Chuck's books because they are easy to understand. I would reccomend these books to any beginner that has a little bit of programming and electronics knowledge.

Great for LCD Control and Communications
Chuck introduces a new and more powerful microcontroller in this volume. The I2C, SPI and RS232 chapters make this volume a must have!

Excellent for anyone wanting to program PIC's
This book is Fantastic.I initially bought a larger, more expensive book to learn about PIC's (the now out dated, and rambling "Programming and customizing the PIC Microcontroller by Myke Predko 3rd Ed)I now wish I had just bought this book !Chuck Hellebuyck is succinct, well written and clear. He explains all you need to know, without the waffle. It amazes me that Microchip has itself not released a simplified programming solution like Chuck does in this book. He calls it SimpleC, and it is a library of functions that vastly simplifies tasks like writing text to an LCD, or outputting a waveform using PWM.This can save so much time, and frustration for the student, or engineer alike.I have studied electronics at university for 3 years and now have a degree in Physics and Electronics - yet reading Datasheets and programming PICs was giving me a headache.Manipulating individual bits in config registers is tricky when you are learning -> there is sooooo much to learn before you even get it to flash a LED.This book, and it's two earlier siblings are the way to fast track that learning. The SimpleC library can save much time developing prototypes, and exploring the capabilities of PIC's it's not just for hobbyist's, engineers like myself can save hours by using it.Thanks Chuck, All the best everyone.PS I am in no way connected to Chuck Hellebuyck, I've never met him, nor do I gain in anyway by writing this. I write this simply to help hobbyist's and junior engineers get ahead faster and easier.

Great addition to the series.
Great book. I like Chuck's writing style. Easy to understand and very informative. This book is a great addition to the series on beginners getting up to speed with embedded C programming. Good up-to-date examples. Highly recommended.

Have only done a quick read through, but finding it not as clear as the first two books. May change rating after I have had time to work through the examples in the book.
