Fifine K037B Wireless Microphone System with Headset Lapel Mic for Speaking

UPDATE 7/17/18 - I am happy to change my original 2-star review to 5 stars! The first mic I got had a terrible high-end screech, and as I dialed down to the correct volume, a high-pitched digital "hiss." I played with it and could get it to reduce, but not go away. This is on a Sony RX10 Mark 4. I sent the mic back, rather than wait for an exchange, due to a deadline. To Fifine's great credit, they followed up with me. Even though I had returned the unit, they asked if I would like another one to test. Their customer service was excellent (which is why I had updated my original review to 3 stars. Good customer service is rare, and they should be recognized for it). I enjoy testing and technology, so I said that I would be willing to test another unit and determine whether I just had something wrong in the original unit, or whether the mic wasn't compatible. Today, I tested it on my interview set, using all the same settings as the lapel mic I'm presently using. I'm pleased to say that performance was stellar. Good, clean signal; no hiss. The mic element has pretty good response. I haven't distance-tested it, but I suspect it will be fine, as both the transmitter and receiver have external antennas. Unlike a lot of mics, you can change frequency as well, if there is any interference. I do have one thing I wished it had: a hotshoe mount. The receiver is strictly a box. Now I know it will be easy to get some sort of hotshoe mount bought or made and glue it on -- I plan to do that (I'll probably 3-D print it)-- not a major deal. So to sum up: Fifine took a negative experience, and turned it into a VERY positive one. The mic now works perfectly; you also get a headset mount which will be useful in some situations. The price is unbeatable. To be crystal clear: they sent this unit for me to test and provide an update. I like it so much that I will keep it, and I'll put a hotshoe mount on the receiver to make it work in the field. Definitely recommended! UPDATE 7/10: I added a star for customer service. I've been discussing the problem with them. They've been VERY supportive, and very interested in a thorough compatibility test. I'm going to try it again, and I'll update this review once I do. UPDATE 7/8: After more troubleshooting, I believe the problem is that the electronics of either the transmitter or the camera are not shielded appropriately (although I suspect the $34.95 receiver a whole lot more than an $1800 camera). I've decided to send it back - no reflection on the seller, who I haven't given enough time to respond, but I need this ready next week. ORIGINAL: I just got the mic today to connect to my Sony RX10 Mark 4 for some interviews I wanted to do. I have a Sony hotshoe mic, which has beautiful sound, but it was picking up too much reverb/echo from the room. When I connected the receiver to the camera, I immediately got a loud, high-pitched screech. I dialed down the input volume a lot and moved cables. Eventually I was able to get the background noise down to a high-pitched digital-sounding hiss. It gets dramatically worse when I turn on the transmitter, even with no mic plugged in. I tried moving the cables, changing channels,playing with the volume, but I just can't get a clean signal. It just may not be compatible with my camera. I've emailed customer service a few minutes ago; I'll give them a day or so to see what they say. Since I'm planning to do my interviews next week, if they don't respond quickly, I'll probably pick up a different brand and return this one. If the problem gets solved, I'll update the review and the stars.

The kit is a great deal for the price and everything that comes with it. It came fast and was well packaged. It comes with many accessories also. I did a test outdoors on a busy street and the mic sounded pretty good. Again guys considering that this microphone cost less then $50 the minor problems I did have aren't even that bad. I used the mic during the test video and walked back and it started to break up and lose audio. However when I stood still both microphones this kit comes with sounded really clear. The lavalier microphone sounded nice out of a 1-10 on sound quality I would say about a 7-8 rating. It may have sounded louder if I placed it higher on my chest so it could pick up more audio. The headset microphone sounded AMAZING for the price. Other then the breaking up because I was moving around... it gets a 8-9 rating out of 10. The reason why I keep mentioning price is because there are not many cheap kits out there that come with this many pieces for such a low price and actually work. The audio breaking isn't that much of a big deal as long as your not doing a lot of movement and if you have somebody using headphones to monitor the audio coming from the camera. If your using this as a static(standing/sitting) still microphone... I imagine both of these little mics can be very useful. Great for documentaries, youtube channels and more. A month's time ago, a company that I had never heard a whisper about founds its way into my memory after I was put in my place by another of its products, specifically the K052 Gooseneck Microphone, which would inevitably outperform any personal, preexisting notions regarding its worth, accessibility, audio quality and more. Having thought that perhaps this case sat as a fluke or a "one-time" buy sort of scenario, I thought it proper to test the validity of it all, thus here we sit with the K037B, a microphone with its own story to tell. As to cause no confusion, I must relay the information that this product WILL NOT function will any form of computer-based equipment, even if you have a mixamp as I do, that is unless you have a mixer compatible with with the 1/4" MIC IN cord that will come with this product. That being said, with the 1/4" to 1/8" Adapter Converter Cord, you will be able to utilize this microphone with various cameras and camcorders, which is suitable for many content creators out there I am certain. But alas, it is a shame to not have the compatibility option for phones, tablets, or computers as a microphone as useful, clean, and reliable as the K037B would be a MAJOR asset for many on the Twitch/YouTube platforms. That does however lead to the question, "Is it any good?", and put simply, yes, and it all begins with the presentation. FiFine Technologies knows the proper method of boxing up their products to allows the consumer to feel confident in the product being opened, and with a smooth, clean, and appropriately sized container, a costumers worries go out the window. Furthermore, this same, delicate care shown to the delivery of the product extends into the longevity of the new relationship between consumer, seller, manufacturer, and support group as FiFine Technologies checks the boxes for all. Said costumer will find an extensive manual brimming with everything needed to get the product up and running but more enticing is the inclusion of a full two pages of listings for common issues, how to go about identifying said issues, and how to ultimately fix your situation. Now, some might point to Fifine wanting to reduce the amount of work they themselves need to do and perhaps this is to hide the fact that their product shipped undone, but I ask how can this be if said product is up to par with just about anything out there? How can this be for yet another stellar showing by this company? The K037B Wireless, Lavalier Microphone System is easy to understand, simple to setup and will be ready to roll in minutes, and provides an ideal environment for anyone looking for professionalism on any stage, big or small. All in all, FiFine Technologies delivers once again and my only downside is the lack of compatibility, but that is why other microphones exist. Not one can do every job but FiFine certainly knows how to do theirs. Well Done!

When I write a review, I like to be fair and honest. If I buy something that does not perform, I am not afraid to tell people. But with this mic, I am not quite sure whether it did not perform well, or if it did not perform for my purpose, which is different. Let me explain. I do a lot of outdoor videos. Recently the mic on my best camera developed a buzzing sound. It appears that the mic has gone bad. The camera takes amazing video though so I want to keep using it. So, I need an external recording device that I can record an audio track with that I can add to the video in post-production editing. I thought something like this Fifine mic would do the trick. To test this mic out I placed it next to my galaxy smartphone and another camcorder with a built-in mic and then started talking for a few seconds, recording on each device. When I reviewed the audio that was captured, I was surprised to find that the volume of the audio from this mic was significantly less than from the smartphone and the camcorder. It was not bad audio, it was just not as loud as the other two. I did some testing and found that the mic on this unit had to be within a few inches of my mouth to really pick up good and get some volume while recording digital audio on my computer. The resulting recording also seemed to be lacking in bass. But then I hooked the unit up to an amplifier and tried it that way. Completely different. The sound from the amplifier was loud, smooth and full. Nothing like what it sounded like when recording to the computer. It sounded really good. I sang a song it sounded so good. I started thinking of where I could use it to do public speaking. LOL! I am no audio expert. I can't explain why this Fifine wireless mic system sounded so good over an amplifier system and not so good when to record on my PC. It might be that it produces an analog signal instead of a digital signal and volume and bass ar lost in the conversion process from analog to digital. That is my best guess. The one thing that really surprised me with this unit is how far the reach was. I did some testing and got up to 350 feet away and had a clear signal. At about 360 feet I started to get a little interference, but I was able to go all the way out to 400 feet away from the receiver and still understand what I was saying. Of course, this was an open-air Line-of-Sight test with nothing in between the transmitter and the receiver. But still, you could easily use this thing in a football stadium. Bottom line: I think this mic will work just fine for anyone who does public speaking (like a pastor of a church). It will work for digital recording, but not very well.

DO NOT BUY... I have owned 2 of them, both the same. If this was reliable, it would get 5 stars for the price, but it is 100% unreliable and therefore useless to me. I ordered this product for basic quick recording of "seminar" and short FB video for work. I knew it wouldn't be the world's best audio, but it was much better than internal camera mic's. I used the microphone for a 1.5 hour video shoot at work where we recorded short clips of our owner discussing topics. When the microphone worked, it worked great. The sound was "good enough" and totally what we were looking for. But about half the audio was unusable because the microphone would suddenly stop working for 2-3 minutes at a time. We recorded 5 videos, all 3-5 minutes long, and had to throw out two of them. I figured I got a lemon. So I exchanged it for another unit. 2nd microphone, same thing. I had to cut large chunks of a seminar video shoot from the video because the microphone would cut out for 2-3 minutes at a time and then suddenly start working again. I figured it was operator error, so I messed with the microphone the next day, and used again a couple weeks later for another video shoot. We recorded 4 short 4-5 minute videos and again had to throw out one of them due to the microphone cutting out. Another of the videos was barely usable due to clicking all over the audio, and the other two videos came out perfectly. Wish it worked. Wish I could get my money back. DO NOT BUY.

I'm a seasoned speaker and purchased this product as an inexpensive lavalier to work with a Fendor Passport speaker system. While the product works, in my opinion and experience, it PERFORMS POORLY. In summary, no transmitter mute button, minimal directional mic distance, and low line of sight capabilities. I researched the Q&A section in the reviews section before purchasing and it was indicated the transmitter had a mute button, which it does not. It only has an off/on switch. This means the mic is hot all the time unless you turn it off. The button is recessed and has a 2 second cycle on and off, plus the 2 second pairing to the receiver. This essentially means if your mic is off, it will take approximately 5 seconds to power your mic to respond. This is a deal breaker for me. PRO: The headset is comfortable and has a flexible wire to position the microphone to be clearly heard. CON #1: The microphone is directional and cardioid (as advertised) and needs to be approximately 1 to 2 inches away from your mouth to be picked up. This is okay for audio but visually it places a black boom mic across your cheek with a big black fuzzy dot in front of your face. Not good for PR shots. CON #2: The lavalier, which was the primary reason for me to purchase this low cost option, had the same issues as the headset for clarity. The picture included with the instructions and for the advertisement of lavalier clipped between the collar for your tie's knot, is more than 2 inches away from your mouth. I was unsuccessful in having my rich tenor voice being picked up by the mic. CON #3: Both mics have a 3 prong connection and are not universally swapped, so I could not use the same transmitter with a different microphone. CON #4: While clearly advertised as needing a clean line of sight for the transmitter and receiver to work, walking around a person, table, or chair caused interference. May of my workshops have 150 to 200 people and I walk around the room, up and down the aisles, so this was another deal breaker for me. Shure and Sennheiser are great and top brands and typically carry a higher cost. I'm hoping to find a mid-priced option to recommend for up and coming presenters. When I do, I'll update my review. In my opinion, experience, and testing, while the price is good and the product functions, it performs poorly.

As a Journalist I travel a lot to film content and I ordered this in June of 2018. It sat unopened until January 2019 and even then after opening it I didn’t get around to testing until late March which by then it was way out of warranty so I thought contacting the company would be futile. I gave it a shot anyway and messaged them on fb as that’s where I work and speak with people a lot of the day. They responded very quickly and as a social media “influencer” who manages my large pages comments, messages, media content creation, and more I can tell you that’s not an easy task. Many companies and personalities drop the ball on social media sadly. They helped me attempt to trouble shoot the issue and after that they sent me a new unit quickly. It arrived in two days sealed in box. I set it up and it worked flawlessly with full stereo audio unlike the previous unit that only had sound in the left channel upon playback. There is some light background hiss but that’s to be expected for an extremely budget friendly wireless mic! Those that complain about sound quality are not well educated in how much other units cost or the lack of portability the “cheap” versions cost at 130-300 ish dollars. The hiss can be filtered out mostly with software and really this is for being portable during interviews in the field or other mobile filming. Most other needs can be filled with a shotgun mic or a mic like the blue yeti for voice overs or stationary filming. I will be testing this more soon and will update this review as applicable. If I get a year out of it I will be satisfied. This kind of unit is a stop gap until you can afford 1-2k wireless lapel mic kits so stop acting like it should be seinheiser quality for 5% of the price.

I used this wireless mic three or four times and then it quit. I thought it was my USB soundcard but I finally opened up the case to the microphone to see that the soldered connections to the microphone connector had broken away from the circuit board. I was able to solder the two connections together and get my microphone working, but the case is designed, with the "set" switch on the top, so there seems to be constant pull on the two pins connecting the mic connection to the circuit board. This design makes the microphone very fragile. I'm not sure how long my solder joints will last. Otherwise, I'm pleased with this mic although this design flaw caused me to miss over a month's worth of recordings. At least I know what the problem is and can always go back into the case and resolder it. (Sorry, I should have taken a shot when the case was open. Don't want to mess with it now though.) REVISED: Fifine responded quickly to my review, asking for more details and photos to help them when they redesign the mic in the future. They not only replaced the microphone, but gave me the option to choose from the mic I had originally ordered (K037 which needed a separate USB sound card in order to record directly with my computer) or a K031 which includes a USB sound card. I just received the new mic and it works very well with my Macbook.

It is not my first product off Fifine I'm shocked that the mic didn't work I tried everything on the manual to make it work according to the problems encountered it connects for half a minute then it stops working and now I ended up with a non working mic

Tengo varios meses usandolos para grabae mis vídeos y me ha sido de mucha utilidad porque evito estar usando clables que se enrredan, además de que tiene un let que te avisa si la pila funciona bien o ya hay que cambiarla y ambos micrófonos funcionan perfecto para la ocasión, yo uso la diadema para vídeos solo y la otra para vídeos con colaboradores porque para vídeos solo tendría que estarlo agarrando y es incómodo. El único defecto es que a veces se oye interferencia, pero es muy poco y para el precio no es tan incómodo, pero es mucho más cómodo que tener cables, aunque debe haber mircrofonos mejores, dudo que a este precio.

I thought with buying a couple of these I could hook them up through technology.... there is no way to do this and it was not obvious or information available when I was reading it. I felt the photos looked like you could, so I have two sets now and no way to do what I wanted to do... :(
