Sorry, I can't agree with 4-5 star ratings
The Yachee is pretty much a copy of the Unger grabber (In fact, if you compare the two closely, they look like they were made in the same factory, to the same specs.) Except that the Yachee has a couple of flaws that shouldn't have been made. The most serious is that the grabber arms are parallel to the handle. That's not the angle that permits one easiest pick up either from the ground or from a high shelf. Unger angled its pickup arms almost 80deg. to compensate for the angle of the shaft, so that when you reach down (or up) the pinchers are pointing down on top of the target, not out in front of it (obstructing the view and making it harder to grab and pick). It appears the Yachee people didn't bother to observe or consult with people who actually use the device. Yes, it will work. But its not the best design and is awkward. If you have any trace of DIY in you (or a friend who does) do not despair. It's a simple fix, really. The metal arms just need to be bent somewhere between 75 and 85deg. (what ever suits your height, arm length and reach best.) Not hard to do. I found a 10" vice grips works really well for the bending. You'll see on both arms a little score mark scratched in the metal. That's about where you want make your bend. The width of my 10" vice grips was just about that distance from the pole to the mark. So I just clamped down tight, with the jaw along the mark, and bent the arm up to the vice grips. With both arms bent this way, it works just like the Unger, perfectly positioned for grabbing and gripping. Why, you might ask, didn't I just get an Unger? Well, I have one. Been using it for more than a decade with much success. But I finally decided I wanted two more, one for outside and one for my shop, so I didn't have to keep looking around for where I put the damn thing, and thought I experiment with some other types.Oh, there's one other little problem. The tension is just a bit higher that the Unger (or maybe the years of using it loosened the Unger up a bit.) I have no problem with my wrists or hand strength but I do find I get a little more tired if I'm picking up a bunch of small things I dropped like a box of screws. One other improvement (Unger has it) is a magnetic tip. Easy to do as well. Just get a little rectangle magnet (at some hobby shop or kiddie's toy store) and glue it to the flat side of the rubber tip. Voila, your grabber is magnetized. So I gave them three stars, because these are all things Yachee should have known and could have done correctly for the price. Maybe they had legal problems making too exact a copy of the Unger? Who knows? But these are mistakes that make the device less functional for the consumer, and that's always a no-no in my book.

Much better made
We had a similar item for $2 from one of those stores where $2 is considered high-end. It was very useful for the few days it worked before inevitably failing. That's when I ordered this one. It's heavier to hold because it's made of metal instead of plastic but it's also much stronger and more reliable. We've used it a couple hundred times by now retrieving 2" squeaky dog balls from under furniture and other hard to reach places and it shows no sign of wear or failure. At this point we're thinking it'll last for as long as we'll ever need it. I've also found it very helpful in reaching up high into my Areca palms (tall landscaping plants) to help me retrieve dead fronds and in the garage for helping me place and retrieve those seldom-used items stored high up on shelves. The dual gripping surfaces, one large for can-sized items, one small for marbles, pencils, and the like, make this particular tool very versatile and my go-to tool whenever something's out of reach or I just don't feel like bending down to pick up. I'll never need another one, this one should last forever, but if I did want another I'd buy this one again.

Floor AND ceiling!
I've used these to hang things from the office ceiling without having to get my corpulent mass up on a dodgy office chair. It's pretty easy. Grab one of those magnets with a hook (I'll do a review on those as well), attach whatever you're trying to hang to it, and then reach up with this magical wizard tool to affix the magnet to the metal frame inherent in most dismally corporate office environments. You know what I mean. The ceiling tile with the metal strips in between? Magnets can stick to those (in most cases). This item makes it Just as easy to take it down when HR pays a visit to inform you the gorgeous dragons you hung from the ceiling were only acceptable for the office Game of Thrones party in May. And now it's September, so they'll have to be taken down. And you almost detect a whiff of self-righteous sadism when you hear the words "you should have removed these dragons the day after the party. We thought you understood that."DRACARYS

Heavier Duty but still could use stronger grip
This item is stronger & better built than the cheaper models and I would have given it a five star rating except the grip (although better than the cheaper models) is still not strong enough for my needs.

Lasted over others...
Purchased for my husband. He has broken 6 so far in a short period of time so I went online looking for a sturdier heavy duty one. So far so good. A little different in the operation of the handle somewhat awkward just need to catch on. Happy with purchase.
