The Magnum Plus is not electric. It does not use batteries. It is a manual grinder.

Do they also make a salt mill? Now using Himalayan rock salt.

No, there is not a salt version of the 9-inch Magnum Plus pepper mill. There is a salt version of the 6-inch Magnum. It is available in white and grinds coarse sea salt. We do not recommend customers use Celtic, Grey, Himalayan or Pink salt in our mills as those salts are not fully dried and can gum up or clog the teeth of the ceramic grinding mechanism. Salt and Pepper grinders are designed to crush/grind dry, brittle material. "Moist" or not "damp" peppercorns or salt crystals are never recommended. Coarse sea salt is our recommendation - with the crystals about the size of a peppercorn. Hope this helps.

Why is the 6 inch version so hard to find that doesnt cost twice as much as the 9 inch version?

We're the manufacturer of the 6-inch Magnum, and 9-inch Magnum Plus pepper mills. The 6-inch Magnum pepper mill is presently out of stock And third party vendors are taking advantage of the strong demand for this product by charging very high prices for the little bit of stock they have. Come July 2019, when both products will be widely available again, those third party vendors with their sky-high prices will fade to the background. And you'll have the oportunity to purchase our mills at our normal prices.

What makes this pepper grinder so special it costs $45? I already own it, but have never used another grinder before. SO just curious.

I purchased mine in 2009 on AMAZON for $51.95 so now it`s $ 6.00 less, this puts out a very large amount of whatever size grind you choose. Works as well as the day I got it and gets used every day. I also have the 6" salt mill that works just as well,you get what you pay for.
