Holmes Warm Mist Filter-Free Humidifier for Small Rooms, HWM6000-NUM

I bought this to replace another exact model that I've had for five years and use every day from November through February here in the deep south. Works better than any top I've bought over the years and will keep buying this partiicular model every time, it works that well. I put it in our kitchen of our open plan home and it keeps this area well himidified. Easy to remove the screw bottom for refilling unlike some models what use a gasket. HIghly recommended. I cut a plastic cup in half and place vinegar in the cup then set the heating base inside the cup for a couple of hours once a week to remove the calcium buildup. The bast can be put in the dishwasher if you widh.

I received this humidifier over a year ago and have used it almost every single night. I have horrible sinus issues and I didn’t want to invest in a super expensive humidifier. I have been so pleased with this Holmes warm mist humidifier. The price was great and I have not had any issues with this product at all. I have a standard size bedroom and have the humidifier on the floor in an open corner of my room. It does an amazing job at putting that moisture back in the air!! If I don’t turn it on at night before I go to sleep, I can definitely tell the difference in my sinuses because of how dry the air is. I do recommend this product because of the dramatic difference it has made in my sinus issues! The maintenance is easy because there isn’t a filter you have to replace and it is dishwaaher safe!

I decided on this item because cleaning seemed less intense than other warm mist humidifiers I saw (dishwasher safe!) however I can pretty much guarantee I won’t be doing that daily as the directions indicate to do. The unit is larger than I expected but runs quiet and there isn’t a bright ‘on’ light which I think is another pro. I am however disappointed by the output. I have this in my daughters small bedroom and even on the high setting I don’t notice much moisture in the air. Also when I put Vick’s in the medicine divot, it does not seem to permeate the air, but rather gets filled with water from the mist.

Update: December 2018 No problems for 3 1/2 years. Got three winters use out of it, which is pretty good.It works and doesn't leak. One major design flaw, though, is the location of the control knob on the top of the unit. It is adjacent to the vent, which makes it nearly impossible to avoid the steam when turning off the unit or changing the setting. This definitely is louder than my previous humidifiers, even on the low setting.

The first of these units lasted over five years. The nest unit, same model #, lasted 10 months. Holmes stated the unit should be warranted for three years. Since Holmes no longer carries this unit in stock, they don't have a direct replacement, i.e. warm air mist. I still liked this unit, but since the company is useless, I am now giving it a one star rating.I purchased the last one from amazon.Have a good day!Michael M. Dallas

Very well designed. Simple of operate and use. Very effective in raising the home humidity during the cold winter months. This is our second purchase. The previous unit lasted three years and ran almost continually during three winters. Certainly hope the company continues to offer this model. The replacement was hard to find.

(Amended). I originally rates this five stars. It works perfectly, no leaks, exactly as described. BUT. As another reviewer mentioned (and I wish I'd listened) it is a MONSTER to clean!! I live in Florida with constant AC, I use this machine daily and because of the scale buildup, I have to CLEAN it daily. Not just a simple wipe, either! Scrubbing and scrubbing with a towel... Soaking the reservoir in vinegar... Attempting to soak the misting chamber in vinegar to soak off the crud. This is AFTER running it through the dishwasher! And if I skip ONE day, it's *oh* so much worse.I finally had enough yesterday. I ordered another brand warm/cool mist humidifier with a permanent but cleanable filter. Which will be a *lifesaver* except for the money I spent/wasted on this one. Not to mention the separate humidity gauge I had to buy, when my new purchase has one built in.If you're​ on a budget and only want this for occasional use AND you own a dishwasher? Perfect. If you plan to use it more often? Forget it!! Oh. Also - I use it exclusively in my bedroom, which isn't that big. Maybe 10' x 15'? If I don't keep the door all the way closed, almost impossible to reach optimal humidity. I'd say this is for small rooms, not medium sized ones.I wish I'd waited. I wish I'd never bought this awful thing.

I had a Holmes HWM6000-UM humidifer and it worked fine for years. I ordered on about a month and a half ago and it last 32 days. Amazon.com's return policy (like many retailers) is 30 days so I was stuck with a broken humidifer which I had to throw away. I went to Walmart because I live in a very dry climate and needed one I could use right away. I would NOT recommend this product. (By the way, they are only $23 at Walmart, probably because they are a terrible product. Note -- I buy a lot of products from Amazon.com and have been very happy with them and their sellers.
