An insightful book, told from the perspective of writers, editors, and publishers.
Amusing, heartbreaking, thoughtful--this book shows the many facets of writers through their commentary about writing. It is organized into common sense categories, and has words of wisdom for the aspiring writer from such famous authors as Hemmingway and Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens), as well as lesser known gems from editors and others involved in the writing trade. Well worth reading for the entertaining turns of phrase used, even if you haven't thought of writing. You will get a laugh and some good insights into writing past and present.

A fun read!
A great gift for the writer or English major in your life. A wonderful little book of quotes on everything about writing, from Ernest Hemingway, Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, William Faulkner, Henry Miller, T.S. Eliot, and more. Some are very funny. Others are thought-provoking. A fun read!

Writers on Writing
Winokur has gathered advice on writing from more than 400 bibliophiles and categorized their recommendations into 36 sections. Most entries are short quotations. (For categories, click on Table of Contents in the left-hand column of this page.) Writers will love turning to the sections on agents, occupational hazards or punctuation to see what writers and other bookpeople have said about them.Jon Winokur is an author and bibliophile who obviously loves his work.As the author of 113 books (including revisions and foreign-language editions) and over 500 magazine articles, I recommend this book to writers. banal, trite, uninspiring
Jon Winokur spent no time trying to find the best quotes, the most pithy, or insightful quotes. He just picked enough quotes to fill his quota. I read though the book and was completely bored. The quotes have no flare. They aren't memorable. None of them even made a post-it on my monitor.
