Living World Pedi-Perch, Mini

Update: I only waited a few days before purchasing a second for his cage at my sister's place since I visit her regularly. It has blunted his nails perfectly in a way that seems gradual and safe, without sacrificing his ability to grip (right after getting his nails clipped he has some trouble.) He seems very comfortable on it and it's just a great perch in general. ///// If your bird is terrified of this perch, it'd help if you didn't install it with the abrasive side facing up... (pretty sure most birds aren't instinctively afraid of dildos so I'd assume it's just general distrust of new things.) Install with the flat side up and introduce them to it gradually. As you can see, the mini size fits a green cheek conure perfectly, with his foot pads on the smooth part and the tips of his nails rubbing against the abrasive section (I say abrasive but it is not actually that bad and feels fine to touch--just like the regular consistency of a sidewalk.) My boy certainly didn't wanna get on this any of the times I held him up near it, but I installed it on the outside of the cage where he'd regularly pass by it on his way from playing to get food. Eventually he did stop on it and I grabbed some treats and stood there feeding him for 15min straight--worked like a charm! Now he's totally fine with it and I've moved it inside where he stands the most. Really, even if they don't like standing on it, all you need is for them to step on/off it occasionally so placing it somewhere in their way should suffice. Even after only a day, his nails are muuuch less pokey. I'm hoping it'll keep his nails under control between clippings because I simply can't get him still enough to clip them on my own! (FYI for anyone in the Seattle area, Wings of the World in Bothell does wing clipping AND nail trims for free(!!) and she is such an awesome source of bird advice and for great products, highly recommend!)

Well, I misread the description, so when these perches arrived (I bought the Medium and Large) I was very surprised to find that they are made of cement....solid, heavy concrete perches. I didn't even know that such a thing existed and I was looking for the plastic ones with sandpaper on each side. I was disappointed (in myself) for not reading the description better, but these perches are solid and will likely never need to be replaced. They are extremely bumpy and rough and I was hoping they would "file" my bird's nails like the sandpaper, but they don't seem to be as effective in that respect. *sigh* My bird has accepted them, so I am keeping them because they are solidly constructed/very well made and will probably last forever. But, I also intend to purchase a couple of the sandpaper ones. As other reviewers have mentioned they are very large in girth. The Medium one is about an inch in diameter at the smaller bumps, but larger on the big bumps. The Large is bigger. If I close my thumb and finger around it, it is that size at some points and larger at others. Great for parrots.

These Living World Pedi-Perches are great for parrots. They help to keep their nails more blunt... which cuts down on the frequency of nail trimming. These perches have varying circumferences... so that the parrot's feet do not constantly rest in the exact-same position. Many other brands have perches of the same width throughout... causing the parrot's feet to remain in the same position constantly; this lack of variability is not conducive to good circulation. These perches, unlike the plastic ones, are not easily chewed up and ruined. Place them higher than the old perches... to get the bird to accept them more readily (at first). It may take many days before your bird loses its fear of the new (strange) perch; but in time it will accept it with delight! One thing that I would like to mention here -- and please take it very seriously -- is that too many people leave their birds sitting on the perches day in and day out... never taking them out to move around or exercise. If you have a tame or hand-fed bird, you should take it out to exercise every day. I take mine out -- every day -- and as I do leg bends going up and down (exercising myself) I lift each bird up and down many times (repetitiously)... enabling them to exercise their wings. This gives them much needed circulation and muscle movement that is crucial for good health. Besides getting these excellent perches, please ensure that your pet bird gets the exercise that it requires! ;)

I bought this perch for my baby parakeet/budgie and it came packaged well and was a very sturdy and a high quality perch for the value. I love that the texture is rough so that it can be used for beak and nail trimming but sadly my bird was a bit intimidated by it and prefers natural wood perches in her cage. I still do keep it nearby and in her playpen and sometimes do see her using it but it’s definitely not a favorite. Also, I’m not sure if I misread the description but I was expecting it to come in a green color rather than the blue. Other than that I do recommend it.

This XL perch is fine & my DYHA likes it. It's very good for her feet & claws. It is bigger & heavier then the description. I ended up placing a parallel , fixed wood perch under it from wall to wall for stabilization due to the leverage of several pounds of weight in bar form. It was torquing the wall of her heavy duty cage. Substituting the really longer base pieces others mentioned probably would work fine,too, I just used what I had. The need for modification is the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. It came in a nice medium blue color. The color selection suggestion would be good because as bird lovers know, some birds have a love or hate response to some colors. As you would expect, they have very strong visual & color acuity with great detail vision.

Great for big birds...sturdy and durable - concrete too!

Worth the money. Very sturdy & easy to install. You don’t have to worry about the screws stripping when twisting & untwisting. My birds were scared of it at first but after a day or two, they’re now standing on it. I appreciate the seller sending different colours too since I ordered 3 for 3 different birds. 5 stars.

My African Grey got this from Santa. At first she was petrified of it, but now, she spends most of her time on it. Very sturdy and provide great traction and nail action.
