Yup, she's happy!
My sister found a copy of this book at the local library and decided this was the pattern book she wanted. She had been looking for the "perfect" pattern for socks: she has had many foot and ankle surgeries, she wanted a design that did not require stitching a seam in the ankle or back of her incisions because her feet are very tender. So I purchased this for her and she's very very happy I found it for her!

ALWAYS PLACE A STITCH MARKER IN THE LAST STITCH
I absolutely love this book. This book is a must have for you crochet library. I have made a couple pairs of socks and they turned out wonderful.I do feel there is one bit of instruction that is left out. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PLACE A STITCH MARKER IN THE LAST STITCH OF THE ROW YOU ARE WORKING ON(except heel). Move the marker up with each row. When you get to the *HEEL* instructions, never touch the marker.Leave in last stitch untouched until you get to the *GUSSET*. For example on page 16 under *HEEL*, sc 25 sts and leave your marker untouched until you get to the instructions for the *GUSSET*. Then they will have you place additional markers on the sides. When you get the instructions for the *FOOT* only remove side markers. Keep last stitch marker in place and move it with each row. Keep using the end of row stitch marker till the end of the project. By keeping your marker in place you sock will be alot easier. Have fun!

Crocheted Socks, Part 1
This book is the first of two created by this author for those seeking both patterns and instruction for how to crochet a sock. It covers "cuff down" and "toe up" versions of the work. It examines both heeled and heel-less weaves. The examples are charming, the book photography is art. It covers how to size and shape for any foot. You can get one slim book and no longer have to troll the entire internet for patterns or method.

Socks
I am an experienced crocheter, but have never made socks either knitted or crocheted. I found this book to be pretty easy to understand also, but found that some of the explanations in the instructions are vague. I feel that it could be a little more clear with some of the instructions for those that don't have any experience with making socks at all. It should also be mentioned that there is a stretch to the sock and to take that into consideration when making the socks. I made one sock using the dimensions stated and ended up with something that would have fit an elephant....so I tore it out and went down a couple of sizes -- worked out great.

Older book but variety of patterns
Disappointed with yarn choice referenced with patterns. A few are available but many are hard to find if at all. Authors did not use standard yarn weights, so it's a guess for alternative yarns. Best option is to use available sock yarns and DK or light sport weight and work up a gauge swatch. A little work involved to find alternative yarns, but not impossible. Some pretty basic patterns with variety of sock tops.

Multiple sock patterns for multiple tastes & skill levels
I haven't tried any of the sock patterns yet (I'm a beginner, trying to work beyond dish cloths & scarves). I wanted to keep my projects small, like socks, plus, my feet get really cold in the winter. I think I'm really going to like this book. There are many patterns ... some pretty wild (with toes) and some of the yarns are pretty peppy too. I'm happy to see there are also reserved styles and beginner patterns that are more to my taste. There's a great introduction to sock making in general along with tips on custom fitting PLUS stitch illustrations, changing colors, increasing & decreasing. Perfect for a beginner like me and I don't think it will detract in the least for an experienced crocheter. As a beginner, I will want to use the exact yarns specified for my first sock (and probably the next few after that) and would prefer to use less expensive yarns, though I did intend to use a wool and nylon combination. I was disappointed that the beginner patterns call for yarns that are expensive and aren't standard & readily available, though I was able to find them online. Some patterns do use standard yarns, such as Patons & Kroy. Regardless, I am very pleased with this book and highly recommend it.

A good introduction to crocheting socks
There are a few definite dislikes of the book, namely that the weight of each yarn is omitted, which makes substitutions a bit tough. The patterns in this book are a great place to start, and introduce a bunch of good options for construction/creation. Some of the patterns are a bit basic, but that's a GREAT place to start learning! The instructions are clearly written, and I have yet to notice any errors.

Nice designs
I really won't know for sure about this rating until I actually try to make some of the socks featured in this book, but on the whole it looks good; the sock designs are nice and the book well-done overall.

Glad I did!
Plenty to keep you amused here. Clear instructions and great designs/ Good photos and explanations. I am not new to crochet but it was very easy to follow and make these with different heel variations which was nice to try, and suggestions rather than the rule if you wanted to mix it up yourself. Glad I bought this one.
